live instruments and the 404
i'm currently waiting for my 404 to arrive in the mail, but i had a question for y'all. can you plug instruments into the 404 (ie. an electric bass) and sample that way? or would you have to say use a microphone and record off the bass amplifier? any help would be much appreciated. can't wait to join the SP ranks!

I wouldn't imagine you'd get a good sound plugging a bass or a guitar direct into the 404's line in, but just plug it into an amp, and then take a line out from the amp into the 404 line in, no need to mic it up or anything. U don't even need an amp, direct from an effects pedal would give a good sound too.

There are no HiZ inputs on the 404. But with a simple adapter u will be fine.

i have plugged both a bass and a guitar into the mic input and had great results with it. the bass was best. one time we were haveing a consert and under the soundcheck i busted out a live bass riff on the sp pads(one note on each pad) and everyone was shure it was the bassplayer 'cos it sounded really good!

Here for example:

Weird though, isn't it just a 1/4 input jack you need? I keep forgetting if 1/8s are the bigger or smaller ones..
