Songs and pads load, but no sound?

Anybody still cruise this forum?
Hoping somebody has a trick to get some sound out of an old disk.
Hoping it's not corrupted.
For the record, all of my other disks load and play fine, but this one 20 year old ZIP with a bunch of songs I'd really like to recover is giving me fits.

Status:
The disk loads fine, sometimes clicks, sometimes doesn't but never errors.
All songs are present in the list and can be loaded.
After loading, track data can be seen on the LCD.
The songs can be played, but there is no sound.
Also, while the pad bank preview shows samples present on many pads in multiple banks, the pads do NOT light up, and no sound is played when pressed.

Aside from the obvious (bad disk), is there anything I can try?

If you are having problems with a disc, if it clicks (even only sometimes) then I would STRONGLY recommend that you GIVE (the fuck) UP on getting any information off of it.

A bad zip disc will destroy your drive. And once the drive is ruined, i wish you the best of luck in finding ANY solution to keep your 808 up and running.

Cut your losses & Quit while you are ahead, in other words!

Yeah +1 on this comment.. Had a similar experience to the O. P. with pads and tracks loading to the SP 808 Zip Drive but with no sound at all.

Get that shit out of your machine ASAP cause as Lif has said it'll more than likely end up destroying the Zip Drive altogether.

Bummer though, as that disk holds some of the earliest tracks I ever produced, and I'd love to hear them again.
I'll shelve it for now, and pick up an external drive one of these days.
Maybe can resurrect a few.

Really feel your frustration on this man ,the same thing happened to me when I lost a whole load of tracks I'd spent a long time working on courtesy of a fucked up zip disc.

Its disheartening to say the least.

The 808s such a wicked sampler as a concept which is the real shame here.It just came out at totally the wrong time unfortunately with that garbage tech Lif previously mentioned.

Mines currently sitting as a rather expensive looking paperweight on a shelf until the day it possibly gets fixed up .I was using it just for the onboard FX at one point ,which as anyone who owns one of these machines will know are incredibly powerful tools for production.

I also reluctantly sold the OP 1 Expansion Board that came with my original SP 808 pretty recently ,I got a decent offer for it from a friend of mine who was looking for one so I've managed to recoup a little bit of the cash I paid out for the sampler all those years ago!

Are you using any additional gear aside from the 808 , other SP's, MPC etc just out of interest?
