Am i right in thinking ..

This unit has loop & sequence sections in block format .. that will playback on loop? in similar fashiom to how the classic MPCs are set up?

And .. for example could i have a drum pattern on 1 track and simultaneously record synth onto a seperate track whilst in loop?

I have the Zoom R8. I actually do a bunch of different things with it, it's a very versatile machine.

But yeah, you can do exactly what you're talking about. I make full tracks like that all the time, all in the box, with the Zoom R8.

The sequencer works just like you're describing. You can build loops, or "blocks" like you're saying, then piece them wherever you want within the sequencer. Each track is gonna be it's own loop, but you can build em up however you want.

This thing even has visible waveform slicing in it. Really cool machine.
