So I’ve owned a SP505 for a few years, but I damaged the ins/outs. Which means I’ve had to sample from the mic input, and monitor through the headphones out. I’ve originally wanted to get it fixed at some point, but I’ve got a chance to score a 2nd 505.
This can mean I still use both, by swapping memory cards, let the newer unit be the main one I use, and the damaged one just to do extra fx or whatever.
Or, score a SP808. I hesitate to say if getting both is possible. Might happen, might not. What do you think you’d do with 2 505’s or a 2 505’s & a 808??

I just have a single 505 and the main thing I keep running into is I'd like to sample patterns. And time stretch samples.
Having two would be nice to bounce back and forth between, but I don't know anything that the 505 does that others can't that I would need a second for. If I had to choose, I'd get a second 808. But I haven't been doing this very long, so what do I know.
You can probably just swap out the damaged parts if you look it up. Try your hand at soldering before?

Wasn’t able to score that SP808, but I’ll be putting money down on the SP505. If it’s cheaper just to get a 2nd used one, than to pay someone to fix (which I just couldn’t find a guy willing to do it), then I’m ok with that. Probably by having 2 of them, would allow me to bounce audio outs to my SP404 for longer sample time, possibly better sequencing. The broken one I can use to chop mono signals into the mic input, save it to a memory card, swap when I need to.
I should be able to get it out in 2 weeks.

Honestly, I can only come up with two situations where keeping both 505's would be advantageous... you have two separate beat making setups and you want to work on the same project in both areas without moving your SP (1 in the living room and 1 in the studio), or you are doing a live show and need to juggle between 505 beats. Otherwise I think it would make much more sense to sell the busted unit and add more SP functionality.
The 808 compliments the 505 perfectly. Thinking outside of the SP range of devices... I'd recommend a Tascam 8-track to pair with your 505 as well. Then you can bounce patterns from your 505 to the 8-track... to resample into the 505 as loops... which was touched upon previously in this thread. Also tracking out beats from the 505 to the 8-track... and then using the 505 as a send/return effect with the 8-track. If you get an 8-track with a USB you can export your master as a wav/aif and dump it onto your computer for uploading or whatever.

Found a totally different 505 to compliment it. So using both shouldn’t be a issue, as long as this captures the audio from both.
