SPBB#284 Open Mic Night

Post by Green Dutch »

Make a beat using whatever samples you want, but you must use the drums I provide as the main percussion. This will be an open battle for any hardware or DAW too. Lets see who can make the best track.

https://www.mediafire.com/file/jeqteclg ... k.wav/file

Rules:

-Max 5 mins. Only one track submission allowed.
-Vocals OK, but only in moderation. No rap remixes please. Trying to focus on the beats.
-Open to all hardware, DAW etc
-Outside samples OK, but you must use the drum, snare and or hat in the sample I provide as the main ingredient. (yes its ok to add a little bit more drum spice of your own)
-Battle will last 7 days

Good luck! This should be a cool open battle for everyone. PEace!

Download works fine for me.

Great idea. This is more like "bring your best beat" than a sample challenge.

Yup, but I still only want people using that drum to keep it fresh. Should be interesting.

I'm experimenting with short synth samples. Pattern mode beat. Bounce to computer and back to SP. In SP I added reverb... Not very creative

Pulled off a live one, really wanted to add bunch of stuff, my bass, synths, vinyl noise, arturia drumbrute sounds... But as it is, I'm struggling to get a good night sleep from all the work, so took a couple of hours today and recorded a live one  hope you guys gonna enjoy it.

https://youtu.be/s6DKcZ9PXfk

It's all SP, samples used are from my 'Asian' folder - really dunno the title of the track xD, but it's some commercial shit most likely.
I'll try to post another take, with above mentioned gear - if I make the deadline, but if not it's ok

Here's what I did : chopped the piano and flute samples, added a bit of MFX 3 to the piano, then resampled a take playing. Then took the drums, chopped them and time stretched them a bit, also added a bit of 'voice trans' and compression obviously. Also did a take playing with the drums, so I can alternate between using efx and finger playing, for a bit of spice.
Recorded everything directly into the PC (Cubase), as you can see in the video - used mostly DJFX Looper, Filter /drive and delay.
Exported the take and did another, this time playing around with MFX 23 for the bass, and then just added 'ultramaximizer' before exporting the track and glueing it to video.

See you around fam take care
Peace

Yo dutch, nice idea.
And evrn though i am.on hollydays i can not let you down. Bought myself a roland go mixer on the trip to make my beats available online. Bad thing about it i couldnt figure out by now how to record and not have to make a video out of the recording. Funny that everBody posted a youtube link!!
Here i go:

https://youtu.be/0D8v-hwtkyI

I resampled a lot on this. Recorded some drums in the sp 404 (just a 404sx prod), laid some samples down with a mfx23 bassline. All the samples are from the banks of the last spbbs. So.maybe one.of you will recognize. Tried to fresh it up by adding some.effects.on the drumline and basssamples..
Enjoy

Btw, dont treat yourself bad by trying to fit in. Live your life and be careful even if you think its for the sake of the art.

Mine is a Resample microwave I made at work.
Grabbed the drums then a sample from a pocket of the internet.
Added a drum machine shaker I had in my SP for some reason.
Ran it through 303 for some mangling when I got home.

@Loopmantra Crazy beat, you really did a lot with the samples.
Nice variations of the drums and different parts throughout.

sampled the opening song to the anime attack no.1, some recorded percussion, plus a bit of an episode, bounced between 2 404sx'x and pc compression + eq.

Thank you for the kind words brother, much appreciated.

Yo, guys I'm truly sorry about this one - thought that the time limit was 6, not 5 min xD
I mean, I guess I can try to edit the video in YouTube, not really sure, but think there's an option for it, to make the fade out go earlier, around 4:50 - that is, if anyone minds. Otherwise I apologise, didn't mean to step over the line there

Peace

-Used the drums as a straight loop, didn't even need to eq them, did add some extra percussive hits for variation but there is places i left it as just the straight sample provided so it was easier to hear how I used it.
-Recorded minilogue into the sp for the bass line, resampled that with the beat to single pads.
-Sampled myself playing guitar straight from my amp into the sp and then played those pads/loops live along to the beat with one playing reversed throughout.
-Recorded some fuzzed out bass guitar solo towards the end.
-sampled some jim morrison poetry as I thought the beat had a doorsy vibe to it.

Really enjoyed this battle as this is normally how I go about making my tracks so felt more natural than using a given sample.
