Re: BATTLE #283 THE OMEN POLL
Awesome round guys.
Hard to pick though
every track had something that stood out.
DJ Pogo Angel - nice man! Loved the compression too, dunno why you think you failed
catchy, bumpy. I like it. Summer ride.
Asha C - Your standard vibe, I love how you built up your tracks to a certain level of recognisability, as always good work man
Bimmy Richards - awesome track man, really like how you played with the piano, and those vocals are quite complementary to overall atmosphere of the track. Listened to this one while walking my dogs earlier this morning. Smoked a blunt too. Good trip yo
Yakzuu - Sick man. That's all. Everything is sick about this track, the beat the melody juggling, everything. Dark, spooky, moody. Sick. And I like it very much. Great job man.
Gis_Sweden - love those hi hats man, already commented that, but I gotta say again - some wicked shit. And liked the track in general, it was a good ride
Green Dutch - Dude... That’s a perfect track right there. A finished product, really. You could slap it on a vinyl right now and sell it, just as it is. It has everything, dynamics, change of harmony within chorus /verse, it's brilliantly packed with that beat, reminded me so much of earlier DJ Krush works (like "Kakusei" for example) and he is THE beat maker to me, that you had me from the opening riff, right then and there
Zendan - Wow. Decided to stop the talk and start walking the walk, eh?
yo I'm glad you decided to join in. I find the battles as a perfect exercise to hone my SP skills, and with each passing battle I'm hooked more and more. And that's something you also need right now, going back to flipping samples. Good track yo. Loved what you did with the harmony, and I particularly liked the arrangements. Personally though, I'd turn the volume UP on the drums, man, it's a sin to have a sweet beat like that and make it a slave to melody. But I guess it's a matter of taste, nothing else
Bliggedi - My man nailed it again! Yo that's some sweet kick there, loved that spot on it, in the upper register. Sounds like Pantera ahaha yo I'm a metal head too, used to listen to a lot of that stuff growing up, still do. Also a nice track overall, good use of efx, it was - as always - good time head nodding to it!
So... Bliggedi, Dutch and Yakzuu were the most appealing to me, a bit more 'catchier' than others - but I gotta go with Dutch, for the reasons mentioned. Wicked track bro! It's on repeat right now!

Re: BATTLE #283 THE OMEN POLL
Voted for Asha Concrete Belly. Thick composition with some nice bit crushin' and good energy. Dope how those gloomy, dark sounds got flipped into something bright.
Honorable mentions.. GIS & Dutch.

DJ POGO:
Nice bass line and use of the sample. Real cool feel good vibe, really liked those vocal chops!!!
BIMMY RICHARDS:
Nice man, enjoyed the menacing vibe, those vocal samples worked well !!! nice work
YAKZUU:
Nice intro, like the way the drums slowly build from the intro into a dark, slower D&B rhythm. The little stabs from the sample worked well too.
GIS_SWEDEN:
MENACING!!! Those vocal samples are really reinforcing a sense of foreboding.
GREEN DUTCH:
Nice definite intro, the drums were sounding sweet and crunchy!!! really enjoyed that slow transition where the delicate, twinkly piano becomes the main focal point and slow disintegrates with the sweep of the filter!!! Some really nice transitions that I dont know how you got working but definitely managed it!!!
LOOPMANTRA:
Strange little intro but once it kicked in it started to fall into place, nice different approach and those little snare rolls were nice!! Real unique entry!! use of samples worked well too and loved those little snippets that stabbed in every now and again (guitar sounding), this part reminded me of the band BATTLES (who i love), with that hypnotic, evolving layered looping!!
ZENDAN:
Nice vibe, to be honest I cant hear the additional synth that you used! Is it the bass that comes in towards the end??! Nice use of the samples, would definitely have liked that bass line more prominent throughout the whole beat!!!
BLIGGEDI:
Nice crunchy drum sound! subtle use of the samples, I feel you could have definitely added more to give it more body and flesh it out, if you know what i mean? on the other hand, the minimalism of the track also gave it a bleak atmosphere!!
In the end I went with Green Dutch, its was those delicate little piano chops that got me!!! Loopmantra and Bimmy were close runners up!!!

Been away a spell, can't believe it's 283! Went with Dutch cos that beat was stand out. Bring on 284, I'll see you rascals there
Re: BATTLE #283 THE OMEN POLL
yeah it's a korg monotron bass synth. thank you! even though i asked green dutch if that's what he meant in his rules and he said it was okay, i still was kinda like ummmm maybe he didn't want me to use it lmao so i added it a lil bitasha c wrote:

I went with Bimmy Richards. That beat is just nasty. Straight 404 it sounds like and nothing else. Zindan I liked yours too. Shit was fire. The bass was killer, but Bimmys beat sounded like the quintessential 404 Boom Bap beat. Asha dope shit too man. Chops were sick. Nice compression.
Re: BATTLE #283 THE OMEN POLL
thanks, g! you killed it obviously with the beat and the video and everything, absolutely dope. i especially fucked with the way you organized the beat with the switch-ups and the chorus! i fuck with bimmy richards' beat heavy, as well; i left a comment on soundcloud. i think i liked yours the most, dutch, and bimmy close second.... but i voted for myselfGreen Dutch wrote:I went with Bimmy Richards. Wow- really strong round this time out. Asha, Bimmy, & Yakzuu were standouts for me, but thought everyone turned in something pretty good.
Going with Dutch though- really great work man!

There’s actually a rule that u aren’t supposed to vote for urself. Low key or otherwise. Appreciate ur honesty tho... but going for self is forbidden.zendan wrote:thanks, g! you killed it obviously with the beat and the video and everything, absolutely dope. i especially fucked with the way you organized the beat with the switch-ups and the chorus! i fuck with bimmy richards' beat heavy, as well; i left a comment on soundcloud. i think i liked yours the most, dutch, and bimmy close second.... but i voted for myselfGreen Dutch wrote:I went with Bimmy Richards. loving the experimentation going on, gonna go with asha c, seemed a bit too choppy at first but against all the other it sounds so organic, like a garden growing in the summer. a few more listens and I'm hooked. u got a good ear

Re: BATTLE #283 THE OMEN POLL
well we have rules, but most of them seem to be flexible to allow changes to each battle. people break rules all the time and I think in the arena if it goes too far we as forum member address that or let it slide. but there are certain things that need to be kept strict. voting for yourself is unethical. its like THE only unethical thing in the arena. it destroys the whole idea of votes. u win by one vote? broken. someone ties because you didn't vote for them? someone loses because you didn't vote for them? do they not deserve a win?zendan wrote:Green Dutch wrote:hehehe i'll prolly vote for myself each time lowkey![]()
