Details' good cause...

Post by Druphit »

whats everybody..so i've been lurking around this site for more than a minute, finally just got registered.some of you might have seen my man details' posts about selling me his sp,and the pics he posted.ive had the machine for a few months now-i love it,just havent been able to knock out as much shit as i'd like due to being in school.still ive been messing around with a lot of stuff,& i just posted 5 new beats all done on the sp a couple days ago on the myspace page.it would be dope if some cats could check them out and give me some feed and pointers.keep in mind that as of now i dont have any way to track my shit out-these are all straight from the machine into a generic recording program.
i mean it about the pointers-i feel like i got a good grasp on the machine at this point, but i know im most likely not using it to its full capabilities-still,im not neccesarily going for a "signature sp sound"-i dont really want anyone that knows about production to immediately know what machine im using,ya know?i go kinda easy on the vinyl sim and compression.any way, this site has alreeady been a huge help to me,and ive heard a lot of really ill stuff.looking forward to interacting with yall...also-im really an mc first and foremost,if anyone wants to collab, feel free to let me know-im working on a few projects right now.also,i appreciate the words some of you had about my songs when detail posted the link to my other page a lot,for real..peace to all, stay up

 , (you can edit your posts if there's a typo)

those beats are sick man, there's really nice feel to them
excellent chopping and sequencing
you've laid them out really well, with an emcee's knowledge of when mutes/breaks are needed
kill your darlings

Yeah, it seems to be clipping slightly, but nothing too annoying. I thought it was just myspace lagging a bit.

good looking on the feed..its funny,i can always tell someone else right away whats good/bad about their shit..but when its mine i have no clue-wish there was some way to listen to your own music without knowing its you,lol...i do have one question-if anyone checked the beat "your love"-i really dig the samples, and i think its put together pretty well-but i have no idea what im doing trying to get that filtered sound on rhodes and other keyboard samples-fuck i think i did like 5 differnt things to that sample-filter,lo fi,isolater, etc, just kept layering and resampling..but still it doesnt seem to sound as thick as it should.if anyone has any tips on the filtering/specific nob settings, etc,i'd appreciate it a lot.i'll have some newer shit up real soon.again, thanks, stay up...peace

Really diggin your beats. Your drums seem to be clipping a bit, but it sorta adds an extra level of grittiness to it.

I gotta agree, you have a really good sense of where to put mutes. Really helps bring more life to the beats even without an MC.

You did all the the beats inside the 404? Sequencing and chopping included? Just wondering cause I'm thinkin about pickin up a 555.

again, good looking on the feed..rillah-yea i just use the sp,a tore down zoom sampletrack(which i can still use to pitch shift shit from cds if a have to,and make 8 note scales of bass samples-which i sample back into the 404),a portable numark turntable, and a shitty dumpster dove stereo with even shittier speakers...what i do is sequence my eight bar hook part, then make a bunch of backups, and start deconstructing them for the verse parts(unless the hooks completely different than the rest of the beat)is kinda tedious, but to me its a quick process compared to the zoom and the eps i had back in the day...ive never worked on sofware at all-clicking a mouse is no fun..i just need a way to track my shit at the crib and im good.again, thanks for the feed,i was expecting cats to tear my shit apart-and yo,if you dont see me giving a whole lot of feed, its not that i dont want to..im just rarely on a computer with a fast enough connection to really listen to stuff.thanks yall...1
