Tilted

Post by LoopmantrA »

Hey SP fam, long time no see 8)
Been away for a while,on account I started some private business + I bought some new equipment, so I layed off the SP for quite some time now (used it only synced with arturia drumbrute impact to sequence some of the one shots, or basslines off the SP during live sets, oh, and btw LOVING the drumbrute impact, that thing is fkn WICKED for that price man!)

Anyway, I started fiddling the SP around last night, came up with this >

Hope you gonna enjoy it. I know its not much, but like I said, havent really produced anything on the SP for quite some time now, plus I got stoned and lazy, so I stopped here :D thinking of maybe throwing in vocals, like a monologue from a movie or something, and then FX the shit out of it,or maybe scratch a bit, but really slowly, just for the noises of the record and pitched down vocals.
Dunno.
Feel free to throw in your thoughts and ideas, would love to hear it
Good to be back, see you all in the arena

Peace out

Thx Dan :) tbh I hate it when drums are not precise, but due to the fact that I always record the beat first, and then layer things on top - whereas here I had a upright bass/piano track done first, and then played the drums on top, I guess it was bound to happen :D
Shit man, I nearly forgot how rigid the pads are on SP haha that didn't help as well...

But, yeah, I kinda liked it in the end... Because It's not so precise it gives a good contrast to bass/piano loop being nearly perfectly cut

Also, I omitted the saxophone track while exporting, so I had to upload again, sry for that, my bad

Tnx for the input mah man

Thx for the kind words bro,
See, I gotta change that tag lol this ain't really trip hop, more of a dub feel... But I really don't like putting art into genre, there are no boundaries there. Plus, most of the most famous artists are hard to put into a specific genre, they just let the expression take over and go with it.

Which brings me, sort of, to the answer to your question - I'm from a strong 'live instrument' background (played bass and drums /percussions almost 25 years now - bass being my main instrument, and drums sort of just for fun), and biggest influences on me while starting, and growing up, were jazz and r'n'r...

That is, until I discovered 'Ninja tune' label in the mid 90s - which I still consider to be one of the best labels in the world when it comes to that specific genre that hovers between nu jazz / trip hop / break beat /dub / drum and bass / something - and afterwards it led me to the real shit xD like - Amon Tobin (who is, like, Mozzart of the electronic music, and he's probably the biggest influence on me from the lot), Skalpel, 9 lazy 9, Up bustle and out, Kid Koala, Krush (THE best when it comes to trip hop imho), Shadow, Bristol scene..

For this particular track I had Amon Tobin vibe in my head, but more importantly - I heard it sort of like this old school band "Lounge Lizards", they have this track ('Voice of chunk ' I'll leave the link below) where the drum pattern is a fkn HOMEWORK when it comes to syncopated rhythms... And blends beautifully with the sax line, check this shit out man :

I would sell mah soul to come up with a groove like that :D

Yo, loved your beat too! Tbh I'm listening to it rn, but on a phone, so I can't really be objective about everything, but the thing that like the most is the compression. Guessing you using OG 404, right?
I'm having a hard time getting that 'thump' on the SX, don't really like this compression on it.
I would add some vocals maybe... Like spoken or something, not singing. But don't mind me, I'd put monologues on fkn everything lol gotta cut that shit out haha

Anyways, tnx for the input bro, see ya around :)
