SP 404 EJC Format error

I'm ready to throw this thing out the window. I have 2 cf cards, 1 generic 32mb thing and 1 Sandisk Ultra II 1gig. The only way I can get to the format screen is by holding in cancel and remain while I put the cards in while the machine is on. Then after 2 seconds the dots start to flash and the screen says Ejc. Is the card reader in my SP 404 faulty or am I missing something. (If I switch the machine on with the card inside already and I press cancel and remain then nothing happens.)

Hello, seems like I have the exact same problem...any solution anyone?
