I made some pretty good progress so far.
I've got most of the basic features like multi-pitch, multi-level, channel assign, chopping, and more already done, as well as a barebones 24ppq sequencer.
I also managed to reverse engineer the exact pitch-shifting algorithm of the SP-1200 (which is what gives it most of its characteristic sound). Many SP-12 & 1200 users have been fooled by a blind test I posted in the FB group between sounds sampled in the SP vs. my emulation
.
Example breaks & samples ran through my emulation here

Shoebox protoype for your entertainment:

Some of the updates I have planned over the original design are:
- More compact footprint
- Portable, with the option to either run on battery or plugged into the wall
- Some effects (reverb, delay, compression, etc...) assignable to individual sounds
- Access to external usb storage in addition to the internal storage which is an SD card
- Sounds stored in wav, so you can just copy/paste to and from a computer
- Wireless transfer of sounds to/from a phone or pc
- The ability to both tune AND decay a sound (one of my pet peeves with the SP haha)
- Access to a lot more sample time if you want to, but also the option to keep the same 10s & 2.5s limitations
- Can be plugged into a monitor via hdmi, and works like a mini computer with a keyboard and mouse. Could do your mixdown in audacity without an external computer for example.
Here are some videos of a few of the features so far:- Sequencer: https://www.instagram.com/p/BsyqFeoFtah ... xex7r351lo

Let me know what you think, would this be something you'd be interested to see available?
I mainly wanted to make this for myself as a travel/gig portable SP at first but there seems to be some interest so I might find a way to get some units made and distributed.
SP-1200 prices have really gotten out of hand these past few years, this could be a good alternative if you've never experienced how amazing the workflow is on this machine.
