Portable Resampling

Hast anyone ever tried to use a casette dictation device for portable resampling with the 202? If so how did it Work? Any recomendations for a dictation device?

Would love to make 202 beats in the Park with as little extra equipment as possible.

I haven’t gotten around to portable recording devices digital or analog yet. I suppose if you’re crafty enough, a Tascam 4 track recorder & 202 is all you need. But, I always seem to want to add more & more to my setup. I’m needing a good reverb unit for that extra polish and space to my beats. Might get some crappy reverb guitar pedal to start with while I save up for a professional one later. But I don’t have any immediate plans for a recording device as such. Good luck!

As long as it has a line in it should work, however I can’t comment on quality. I know a lot of people use portable digital recorders with success. There a ton on the market and eBay. I’ve seen the zoom H1 come up a lot.

i use a tascam DR-05 for this kind of things. and to record my finished beats i did on sp-303/404 etc. works without problems since a few years and im happy with the quality of the recordings.

Already got that and a setup featuring quiet a Lot more. but to make beats on the go and take advantage of the Battery power im looking for a recording device, and id love it with cassetes for the analog sound. Something i can play back straight away so i can resample. So i thought a dictation device should do the job. especialy since you can change the tape speed.

I ordered one now, so lets see how it works. ill keep you postet.

A Tascam 4 tracks isn't really "portable".
If you got money go for sony WM-D6C otherwise any minidisc recorder/player.

I was on the same thought, I would go for minidisc, that sony that can handle line level recording (if it must be tape), tascam dp004, or the H1 Kegeratoz mentioned.

Or why not just buy a mutlitrack app like Harmonicdog and bounce directly to your phone? Once less thing to carry.

I would think the sound bounced from a 202 to a mono dictation device not made for line recording would sound like pure shit after 2 bounces. I'm sure the tapes are made to capture the vocal frequencies, therefore leaving out anything above 4000hz and missing the lows entirely.

I don't like to spew b/s, so I just checked my dictation devices and was pretty much spot on.

I can't find any of the tapes to see what frequencies are listed. But you are only capturing the mid range er'time you bounce to the recorder.

Thank you man, that saved me a lot of hassle. I got a H2 now, rather cheap of Ebay, so will try and use that.
