Scratch fix on 404SX?

Post by TheOddfather »

What's up dudes! First post, glad to be here. I got a 404SX and it has the smallest scratch on the faceplate, and I'm wondering if I got one of those scratch removing pens that's usually for removing scratches from cars if it would get rid of it? I know it's nit pickey, but it bugs the SHIT out of me whenever I see it. If not, anyone know anywhere I can get a new faceplate, better yet a custom one? Not a big fan of those sticker covers.

Thanks dudes!

Yo!

Welcome to the site,Oddfather.

One small scratch ?.. I wouldn't worry about it personally if I were you..you should see the state of my SP-404 O.G. which has plenty of battle scars or even my old SP- 808 for that matter !

If however it is bugging you that much you could possibly get a replacement faceplate by calling Roland directly ..I know you can buy replacement pads and knobs etcetera pretty easily elsewhere but when it comes to faceplates I'm not so sure though..and yes agreed, those wack sticker covers you can buy are fucking stupid in my opinion and just designed for hipsters, basically.

If I showed you a picture of my sx it would make you cringe!

Just an fyi, if you actually use your sx, all the numbers will fade off of the buttons & since it's portable, if you're worried about scratches, I would buy a special case for it or something. I use a backpack & mine is COVERED in scratches, dents & I lost 2 knobs.

I don't mind it having scars tho, it just means that I use it :) But I get where you're comin from, if you just got it, you want it pretty

Sounds like you got the first one out of the way, my 404 is beat cosmetically. Actually so is my acoustic guitar, I must be demanding on my regular gear.

Haha. I like reading different users takes on this! I’m like the dude bothered by a single scratch, HOWEVER once my shit gets 1 scratch on it I no longer feel anxiety about it getting scratched up, AND it somehow motivates me to keep from getting any more scratches. Then the single scratch turns into that defining wrinkle or scar on the face of a good friend, or ur favorite dog. U don’t really want a machine that looks like every other new unit out there anyway. Now u know it’s urs.

OR get a black & gold faceplate off eBay if u can find 1 (I had the good fortune of being gifted a black faceplate from a good friend many years ago and the shit remains scratch-less to this day with countless studio hours on the thing)... the red ones also look pretty dope.

I can understand that some people go hard on their gear... especially if you're gigging or going mobile with it. I've always made beats in my house, either studio or some other room. When it comes to out-of-production equipment, I treat the shit like it's a rare artifact. I know there are many unused units from the 90's and early 2000's still out there, and in good condition, but the thought of one day having my 808 break and not being able to find another unit actually freaks me out... so much so that I have 2. I know there are more out there, but when you find something that isn't being made anymore, and it's in good condition, it's hard to put a price on that in my opinion.

try not to worry about silly things, worry about the way the music that comes out of that machine sounds! not the way the thing looks

Bro, I had the same feelings (talking about your anxiety). If you have such problems I may advise you to try to use https://naturalwellnesscbdoil.com/hempw ... il-review/ this one product. personally, I think that it is the best way to blow away depression, stress, anxiety, etc, so do not worry about this.
