I don't get the entire workflow

And I'm not talking about the resample / pattern / delay method etc etc...
Its the beginning. Do you just grab a few drum hits, place them in a bank and just sample some vinyl? First thing I did was load way too many drum samples into this... Do you guys usually chop your own?
How do you start? I'm an ableton head so it takes me some time understanding this thing.

Welcome!

I'd suggest sampling from the source instead of loading from the card so you can get a feel for it. with [rec]+[del] you can move pads around to different banks and organize them that way.

I just saw that this technique doesn't work for SX...

BUT! i saw this technique surface a few times, even in the Chops Magazine videos:

Load up a pad... mark the start then hit the pad so there is no end mark. Next del+mark to truncate top. Now mark the start of the next chop. func+copy to new pad then del+mark to trunc. Next chop.. rinse repeat. The SX is fast, and with the func shortcuts it makes it pretty easy to do this, and it better than trying mark and being forced to listen from the top then resample. If the sample is like a full song, it'll take a min tho.

i keep a couple SD cards for my SX for drums only. i listen to vinyl all the time. when a drum break or a drum hit by itself comes up, bring the needle back, put the drum card in, sample, chop, now you have drum hits.

if you're working with one SD tho, just use a couple of banks for the drum hits and practice the same theory. or you can just cheat and download from your computer like you said, that's perfectly fine. or you can find some drum break records! those are holy grails. any way you want man, there's no rules to this shit!! it's art. express yourself. do what u want.

There are literally thousands of drum breaks out there,you can buy specialist albums designed for DJ's and producers which contain only drums or you can try to find individual tracks which have breaks on them.

There's far too many records to name them independently but look for compilations like the 'Funk Drops' series or 'Dusty Fingers' theres also loads of 'Ultimate Breaks And Beats' volumes worth investigating so check them out too.

Check out records by The Meters,Bernard Purdie, Buddy Rich,Max Roach etcetera and especially solo albums by Jazz or Rock drummers which often have great sounding breaks or kicks and snare hits you can chop and slice to your hearts content.

Literally everyone and their dog has sampled JB and that shit is getting old..i can't think of anyone who wants to hear 'The Funky Drummer' looped up on yet another track,so it goes without saying that the more deeper you're prepared to dig the more gems you'll inevitably discover.

Oh yeah I almost forgot...if you find it, don't inflict the Skull Snaps 'It's A New Day' break on anyone cause that shit has become beyond retarded and you'll be just fine hehehe...

Blessings . If you've got a computer .. you could download drum loops and 1 shots . adjust them in a DAW then sample via headphone jack to the SP. Or even transfer them samples onto the SD card using SP Wave Converter .Very easy to use .. but does require that you transfer at 16bit . 44100hz.

Using the headphone jack method will make you more efficient with chopping on the SP to be honest

To answer your question .. i'd sample into the SP . Just feels better to me. I'm funny like that . But i guess you could throw some samps onto the SD card via Wave Converter to get you started .

& if you've got vinyl already then sample using vinyl. If you're an avid record collector . If not search for samples digitally.Alot of people are 'purists' with crate digging.Make it as easy and fun for yourself as you see fit i guess

pretty sure you mean the "mic in" jack lol

you should always use the RCA line in if you can, better fidelity. if you HAVE to sample from your computer auxiliary (i use sp wave converter, i'm not going to rely on my laptop's trash soundcard for fidelity) then get an aux to RCA adapter!
