.. since i twigged on the 404 doesnt allow perfect loop chopping ( if you can prove me wrong kudos) .. for example the resample method . Trynna make perfect lops is so difficult..
I have always been somebody to fuck around with adjusting pitch and tempos .
its worth considerring .. producing elements of your jams at a slower tempo then speeding that shit up . For example kicks produced at a lower tempo have a better (sp1200 for example) feel when cranked back up tempo.
So .. if youre working at making a beat at 100bpm .. slow it down (to say 97 bpm) .. drop the drums .. then speed back up to 100bpm. If you dont use quantize .. or use it loosely .. you will see what im saying.
just thought i'd share.
These methods work best in a looper ( i use the OP1 so this is very easy to do in tape mode .. )
I also used to crunk my beats 3bpm .. in both the SP404 and SP505 .. as an emcee it makes more sense to get a beat you can catch instead of waiting for the elements to play catch up to your delivery

Too be honest I've never really had a hard time getting perfect loops on the 404sx....... BUT when I first got the sx I ONLY used resample mode & I ONLY used the sx, so I got a lot of practice. I guess it just takes practice?
I will say I haven't made a beat using only resample in a long time. The more layers I add it starts clickin at the loop points...... of course there's ways around it, it just takes sooooo much time unless the beat is simple as fuck. So I like combining resample mode with the sequencer.
