Yo I erased all the shit that was in my original post and summarized it here:

Basically I was surprised to discover that the SP-606 can 'deal with' 24 bit audio. You can't load 24 bit files, but you can feed it 24 bit audio via SPDIF and it can output 24 bit into a 24 bit session via digital. 24 44.1 that is

The 606 is all 24bit internally (so is the 404, I believe). Nevertheless, it will not read 24bit files..

This is excellent news to me and for me! I fed 24 bit into the 606 SPDIF directly from a 24 44.1 PT session, and was able to route the signal back in via SPDIF with no noticeable latentcy!
I also ran the SPDIF from the Kurzweil PC2R at 24bit into the 606 and yes it ate up the 24 bit, whether sampling or just running through.

The SP-606 has no problem dealing with 24bit audio via SPDIF- this is as exciting as Zelda! VERY Rad! Meaning I can basically use it as a plugin with all my 24bit sessions.

I noticed the SP analog outs are a tad noisy -even with quality balanced cables (the manual even explains the noise is from the display). The SPDIF however is noiseless. WORD!!!!

True, the analog outs are quite noisy.

If you have a SPDIF cable, you can loop the digital signal (use one cable end to the sp digi-out and the other end to the digi-in) and sample the sp's own sounds via spdif. There is a significant difference in quality.

I hooked up my sp606 DIGITAL OUT to my MBOX 2 DIGITAL IN, and for some reason, my VOLUME DIAL won't raise or lower the volume of my track that I am monitoring through ProTools...Can anybody explain WHY this is happening and give me some advice on how to apply my VOLUME when I am monitoring through my MBOX & PTLE???

When you use the 606 digital out it is on a fixed level that can't be adjusted with the 606 analog volume knob.
Create a track on PT (aux if you're just jammin', audio when it's time to record) and use that fader as the 'volume'.
You may notice the digital signal is a tad low- it is still CLEAN though, so when you normalize the audio in PT after, you'll get a good track.
It's also a good time to use the Isolator effect (and others) & the Mastering options-

Try the digital out of PT to the in of the 606 as well, then you can chop & screw on PT, and simply, quickly grab samples that way. In other words- your 606 is 69ing with ProTools!

I'm starting to agree with that completely.

Common wisdom (always bad to follow) had me recording at 24 44.1, only to be dithering & tweaking to end up back @ 16 44.1 anyway.

I started saying F-it and doing alot of my sessions @ 16
Now I'm mixing down a project using songs in both 24 & 16 and I can't even tell the difference in my reference mixes- the drive space that it takes up is not really worth it- how good the song is, and how the quality of each track is is way more important

Apart from that, unless you only use mono midi tracks, you probably are getting a 16bit+ result anyways...

I'm running the ISOLATOR & the EQUALIZER & my volume sounds SOLID!!! BUT I WANT TO STRESS ONE MAJOR POINT...I went to guitar center and bought some LiveWire Spidf cables...got home, and connected my MBOX2 & sp606 toghether...I WAS ONLY HEARING HALF OF WHAT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN HEARING...PTLE WAS ONLY BEING FED HALF OF WHAT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN EATING TOO...I WAS PISSED...

I TOOK THOSE CABLES BACK AND EXCHANGED THEM FOR THE MONSTERCABLE PROLINK SPIDF DIGITAL's AND WOW...ALL I CAN SAY IS IF YOU AIN'T USING MONSTERS OR SOMETHING EQUALLY AS GOOD, YOU ARE GETTING ONLY HALF OF WHAT YOU SHOULD BE GETTING!!! SPEND THE CHIPS!!! YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!!

I totally thought all SPDIF fed the same signal & that Monsters only gave you a more durable outer, but I will cop one and try for myself now !

do it...YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED...i got nice and crispy signal flow to my sp606 & back...I didn't think cables were that big of a deal before either...but now I know that they should be treated as EQUIPMENT as opposed to an ACCESSORY!!!
