Before I go into rules and limitations I’d like you guys to read this and voice your opinion as there are a few ways we can do this.

For the actual tournament we could do traditional 1 v 1 face-offs and go up a bracket until we reach the winner.

This would probably be quicker and easier to follow, and I’m down for that if thats what you guys want.

YUBA : wait would tag teams work? collab battles?!!

Yuba mentioned tag team battles above, and it's an idea that could work for any of the themes. So I thought it might be interesting to have a couple rounds for this tournament. This would be longer, but it would get more music out of us, allow us to collaborate, and challenge ourselves w/ rules and limitations.

I can keep everyone on track and make sure this thread moves along, I think you guys can see I've been pretty active on this.

I've been thinking about this for a while and I went into detail below w/ two different scenarios for how we could make the tournament work.

I'll also go into my suggestions for rules here.

SCENARIO 1

Traditional 1 V 1 face-offs until Finals



RULES : BRACKET LEVELS

I think Sharris said this best.

SHARRIS : If it's sp only I'll still do it, but would prefer to be able to use other equipment as well for MANY reasons. Since this is an sp battle I think an sp should be the main tool tho. & being able to use additional gear doesn't necessarily make things easier...... just brings more possibilities and I definitely get more out of the battle.

Some could say it's not fair for the people that ONLY have an sp & nothing else. But there are also the people that ONLY have 1 sp and people with multiple sp's so.......

To meet wishes of both parties who want to include ext instruments or just don't have them.

I think F I R S T and L A S T rounds of the bracket should have EXT INSTRUMENTS ENABLED.

2ND and 3RD round EXT INSTRUMENTS DISABLED

We could also come up with specific rules like some that i'll go into w/ Scenario 2.

SCENARIO 2

Round 1 - 16 People - 1 v 1 v 1 v 1

1. Split 16 People into 4 groups.



2. 1 Person w/ least votes of their group will be eliminated.

3. RULE : Must introduce your character in some way throughout your piece.

SORA4AM : the first thing that comes to mind is the musical themes of wrestlers entrances, and the soundtracks of the ppv events, like wrestlemania 25 theme or smtn.

Round 2 - 12 People - TAG TEAM

1. Teams of 2 vs Teams of 2

Code: Select all

1,2 vs 3,4

5,6 vs 7,8

9,10 vs 11, 12

1. Collaborate with your Partner

2. 1 or 2 Tracks each OR 3-6 min. time limit TOTAL for BOTH
we can decide specifics on this later

3. Point based Team with most votes advances.

4. PARTICIPATION NECESSARY if your partner abandons you you can run the round yourself and they'll be eliminated. Then group vote on one of the losing team to fill in the slot.

Round 3 - 6 People - BRACKET

Same as SCENARIO 1 except w/ 6 PEOPLE.

Scenario two can be changed, and depending on the theme we pick I can come up with alternate rounds, or say we don't wanna do tag team battles.

I can also come up with other crazy things, like bringing back people who already lost.

Endless options, I gotta head out now though. but will update this post w/ a third scenario, and also the original post with updates l a t e r.

i think the group scenario vs the bracket equals the same amount of rounds\beats? so its all the same to me.

my biggest question about the main "musical" samples is: are opponents chopping the same sample. or is it just free for all?

i understand people cant work with some samples, could be discouraging. but the alternative of free sample rules hides most of the skill behind the beat. and could allow people to use older tracks or beats they have already started.
i dont want sound too paranoid. i not saying this happened. i always chop fresh and stress about deadlines and i am sure everyone else does also

yo another wildcard type round might work for all that get voted off in round 1. the collab suggestion came bc tag team wrestling was my fav. in here u cant distract the ref though

Thank you for putting this together Flying Thunder! I've grown so much because of sp battles & I can tell this is going to be a good 1

We did scenario 1 (1 vs 1 face off) for the cartoon/comic book battle & it worked out really good..... well...... I didn't make it past the first battle, but it seemed to work out really good watching from the sidelines
I like the idea of teams too tho....... I'll roll with whatever you guys want, all scenario's look good to me.

I also like your idea of allowing external instruments for 1st & last round, but not allowing them for 2nd & 3rd. Should make everyone happy
