Group Picture

Post by Crane »

Just a quick group picture before some of these fellas head off to college (aka craigsList).

my friend was giving me shit for my collection so I took a picture and I thought it looked pretty cool. Forgot to put the 606 in there.

We have similar tastes in gear...... I'm at a point where I need to sell a few things too.

Are you selling ALL of that? Or just took a group picture prior to letting a few things go?

It looks cool all lined up like that....... a beat machine collage 8)

Yeah it was just a picture for my friend because he was giving me shit (he doesn't do music so all of the machines are pointless to him). I'm slowly trying to thin out some pieces. The 202, CDX are first to go. And a few others will follow, but I'm on the fence about what ones.

I'm sure you're the same way and it's so hard to get rid of stuff as everything has it's own little purpose.

Yea I'm totally the same way! Everything has it's purpose. But at the same time, gear is piling up & there's so much cool shit out there. So I decided to revamp the studio & sell gear that I don't use that often, but having a hard time deciding what to sell. I'll think I made a decision, but prior to selling it I play with it & get whatever out of it I can......but that's as far as I get......I do that, I have fun, then I decide I don't want to sell it anymore.

I have a hard time getting rid of shit in general tho. Even broken shit. I think I can make it into an art piece or something. I even started saving old lighters to build a statue out of them.
Yea I have a problem.
But the only thing I can't stop buying is music gear, so it's not like my place is full of shit, it's full of samplers & records.......... & a pile of broken lighters

Move a few times and this problem will erode quickly.

Kegeratorz - I said I would never move all my vinyl records again as boxing and moving those are hell. All of my records are now in our new basement. Instead I left the couches, chairs, bed, and tables. I do want to slim line my equipment, I just hate it when I get rid of something, then regret it down the road.

Sharris - I do the same thing, turn it on to go through everything so I can list it on craigslist, have fun with it and then think "there's no way I can get rid of this". I did that the other night with the SP-808 (and I hate that thing).
The stuff I'm on the fence about keeping, I put it on CL for high prices, if someone buys it, I figure it was meant to go. And as I drive away from the meeting spot I play boyz II men "It's so hard to say goodbye, to yesterdaaaay"!
I always try to balance out at $0 with my purchases, so that makes it easier to get rid of shit that I definitely don't use as well (keeping a spreadsheet helps).

Hahaha, fair enough. I always sell a piece knowing I could purchase later if wanted too. When I decide to sell a piece I test then box up for shipping, this way there's no way I can be persuaded to keep.

last summer thru fall I unloaded so much gear before I moved yet again and it was liberating to be back to my acoustic and 404.

That's exactly how I felt about the couches, bed and tables!

The boxing stuff up is a good idea, but I try to refrain from selling things on ebay as you can easily get screwed over by shifty buyer's. I try to stick with CL, so that way the person can fully inspect and go through the machine, they are happy with it and the transaction is done. On ebay I have to worry about someone breaking and returning it for 6 months (I won't get started on the B/S ebay pulls).

At the end of the day most of this shit is expendable, like you I'm more than content with my turntables, and a sampler/track recorder.

That's a great idea Crane (putting gear up for sale at a higher price if I'm on the fence about selling it).

& totally true Kegeratorz, it can always be bought back. Plus there is plenty of gear to choose from if you want something different.

fellow beat heads,

Don't do something stupid like get a job or worse,
get married to some Bimbo and have children.

All that gear goodness will collect dust.

Oh, don't you wish it was 92 again?
