[VIDEO] Making a beat with the sp-202, 303 and 404sx

Post by Cuthbert »

Hi guys,

Been meaning to make this video for a little while. It's a quick tutorial kind of thing, showing a working method for using the best bits of the 202, 303 and 404 in tendem. A nice little work flow i've been using a bit lately to avoid working on the PC. Thought you guys might find it interesting:

The editing and sound quality probably aren't going to win any awards, but i had to make do with the limited filming equipment i had to hand! I hope it's helpful!

Let me know if you have any questions at all, some parts i had to skip through quite fast to prevent it being too long.

Cheers.

When you first said "Bollywood" records, as a joke I was going to say shot's out to Raj Kapoor and sure as sh*t it turned out to be Raj Kapoor.

I enjoy watching these types of beat making videos although I read a line on another forum somewhere that puts it into perspective.
"Beat making videos are like watching someone else wash dishes while you yourself have a sink full of dirty dishes".

Cool video, keep up the good work.

Ha ha cheers man!

Point taken on the analogy, sometimes it's helpful to see other peoples dish-washing techniques though!

Yeah, I love watchin beat makin vids. Just like someone that plays football probably watches professional football.......
On my down time I like watchin other people do the same things I love to do, snowboard vids, beatmakin vids, ect.
When you take a break from something you love to do it's enjoyable to watch someone else do what you love :o) & soak up as much knowledge as possible.
Funny analogy tho.....sounds like who ever said that watches beat making videos more than they make beats.

I think that's why the quote stuck with me. I love watching scratching videos and I'll watch them for dayzzzz, while my turntable gathers dust 15 feet away!

hehehe..........yeah, I think it has to do with being unmotivated or tired, I don't know....that's how it is with me sometimes. Long day at work, I get home & want to play, but don't feel like doing anything so I watch other people play instead :)

Hey guys,

Made another little tutorial vid. This time using the SP-202 and SP-303 alongside FL Studio. Trying to figure out a best-of-both kind of workflow.

Here's the link:

I enjoyed your first video and this second is enjoyable as well. My only qualm is right at about 8.42 you say "lets set the camera up and play the beat thru". At that point you need to plug the 303 into your sound card so the viewer can hear the actual beat as opposed to the shit audio from the camera.

The mobile Line6 does a great job for stereo in recording to the iphone and only cost around $30, not sure what that would be in the almighty quid.

Anyways great job on the video, I look forward to more.

Cheers Crane!

Glad you liked them. Good point about the final beat audio. Next time i'll record it live into the 404sx while filming and then import and overdub the audio. Thanks for the feedback!

Hey guys,

Dropped a new tutorial/ beat making video today:

https://youtu.be/Jdwi4GkBqic

It focuses on the resample method using the 202 and 303. Hope you like it. Let me know if you have any questions/ comments/ criticisms or anything. I tried to up the production values a little bit. Learning a lot with my new camera so hopefully the production quality will improve rapidly from here out!

Cheers!
