Hip Hop Heads...?!

Post by ghost bazz »

Can we please talk some hip hop.

I’ve been out of the loop for a minute, but my last peek in on the scene got me listening to:

New Pusha T - Dope. One of the strongest “new” albums I’ve heard and worth repeated listens. Production is pretty varied, but solid throughout. The opening cut is super bouncy... sounds like Kanye to me but I could b wrong.

Kid Cudi album - too much singing for me. Only listened once.

ASAP Rocky - sounded pretty weak. I struggled to get through a single listen.

Most recent Action Bronson - I dug this one. Cool production and that charismatic bastard spitting his culinary infused jargon.

New Nas - haven’t listened enough to say yay or nay, but it didn’t grab me as an album... just a few dope tracks. Seemed to follow the pattern of his last handful of records. A couple tracks w dope OG sample based production that kick ass... and a couple shitty keyboard beat tracks with whack r&b singing on the hooks.

What else dudes? I know I’m missing a bunch of shit.

New freddie gibbs album is nice... i like that you listed some of those new kanye produced albums theyre pretty good.. i like the kanye and cudi and daytona is really good too... there is a good amount of singing on kids see ghosts but im kind of a singer first anyway so i can dig that.. i love that kanye kinda taught himself to sing or so it seems

One word, Griselda

Always love Action Bronson , yea Blue Chips 7000 was pretty cool

Black Thought dropped an EP with 9th wonder. I listened a couple of times

Jay Rock-Redemption was pretty good

Phonte dropped a project, still haven’t listened though.

I think I’m much more picky about what I like now. Everything’s microwave even the so called “real” rap. I think the easy access and constant release of music depreciates the value and appreciation for a lot of music in every genre.

How long do y’all play albums before your ready for something else? It’s like a month for me (and that’s if I really like it)

Yo! U guys already gave me a bunch of shit to check. Much thanks. The new Gibbs wasn’t on my radar, or the Black Thought - and I think he is one of the baddest emcees ever. Pretty under rated imo.

The last albums I really rocked til the tape popped where Good Kid Mad City, B4.da.$$, ASAP Rocky’s first 2 joints, and 1 that I highly highly recommend... da villins, cashmere dice! Check it. It’s doooope.

Here’s another 1 that goes back a little, but worth mentioning. Coral Cadavers by JR & PH7... the instrumental version bumps. Most of the album sounds like it was sampled from easy listening Kenny G type stuff, but the beats r sick. It’s a fairly unique sound.

Those all made it past the 1 month mark.

Was listening to Kid Cudi just yesterday - loved it! The off key singing is just what makes it for me; that and the so-sloppy-its-dope, drunk highschool band production puts a smile on my face.

Im still regularly spinning Danny Brown, Atrocity Exhibition. Every track a different production style but it works so great as an album and the Danny flow maybe you love it or hate it but he is one of a kind.

New Black Thought is undeniably good. 9th Wonder solid beats but I like more adventurous shit so I haven't spun that one more than twice.

J.I.D I've just been getting into. His flow is insane... Only the one album so far as I know, "the never story"

Production-wise I'm always keeping my eye out for new Monte Booker, Phoenix and Smino.. GSPL ep by Phoenix dropped last year and I'm still all over that.. it's on Spotify and SoundCloud, this style of production is hop for me in 2018... Likewise some of the tracks I've heard out of the Chkn & Beer events out of Florida lately.

Edit: it's "Phoelix" with an L (damn autocorrect)
