Need help with OG 404 volume replacement
]So I got this 404 a month ago on ebay. The volume knob made the crackle and was pretty messed up and I figured i would just need to replace it. Got the knob yesterday and Just opened it up and seen how bad of a job someone did installing a volume knob. Part of the board is coming off near the right post on the volume. Anyone else run into an issue like this? Is this board fucked?

Can you edit your post and shrink the pictures down about 75%
First off if you paid good money for that you should be pissed, I would contact the seller.
It looks like they tried to get the pot off by heating, pulling, heating, pulling on and on and on. it also looks like they cracked the board on the big lug solders.
If you are going to try and fix it, get all the solder you can off with solder wick, and pull the pot out. I'm sure everyone of those pads and traces is fucked.
Your best bet if they are would be to hot glue the new pot down then solder wires from the new pots post to to either the post of where the traces lead or to spots you can scrape the green off of the traces and make your own make shift pad.
Just wondering much did you pay for this? You need to see what the seller has to say, as that is pretty f'd up if they sold this as working.

Re: Need help with OG 404 volume replacement
I paid $265 shipped. I just read the description for the post I bought it from and this is what it said.
" This item has been tested to be fully functional and is guaranteed to work. Its in rough cosmetic shape with scratches all around".
Im pretty sure its been to long to get a refund now. I dont think the board is cracked in the area you mentioned its just looks like theres some flux burnt on from bad soldering. Everything else works fine its just the volume. I dont want to try and desolder the pot and mess the board up even more and it not be usable.

That Seller looks like he sells random junk and very well could have no idea it was jacked. It also shows he sold another one within the last six months, maybe that person returned it and you just bought it last month.
I would send him the pictures and see what he says, you paid way to much for a jacked up unit and if you aren't willing to try and fix it, well as soon as those pads break loose from use you have a $265 paperweight.
I would at least recommend a few gobbs of hot glue on the sides of the pot if you don't want to take it out, that will at least keep it steady for a while.
Good Luck

Look at the one he sold in February compared to the one he just sold you. It is the same unit, same cards, just different knobs. He knows its fucked.

Dope got it all figured out now. Getting a full refund and get to keep the 404 still. Tried to play it off and said they didnt notice it was messed up.
Re: Need help with OG 404 volume replacement
Well that worked out nicely. That guy knew it was messed up.
Now that it's free, for probably around $100 a cell phone repair shop could most likely fix it for you by doing what I mentioned above, if you are scared to mess with it.
If you want to sell it super cheap let me know as I want to try and test out some modifications but I don't really want to "experiment" on my unit.
