Audio Output - Which speakers/monitors?

Hey All,

This is a bit of a noob question.
I have a Roland MC-909, and have been using it with a pair of studio headphones I've got (reasonable Roland set I bought to use with my V-Drum kit).

My question is (sparked by a topic in the SP-606 forum), can I plug my MC-909 into my home stereo, or even my dodgy logitech computer speakers?

Is there any risk of using either of these? I've had a look at studio monitors before, and they cost quite a bit - not looking for anything particularly good quality, just something to get me by and the headphones off my ears!! Also, I would keep the volume at a reasonable volume...

Otherwise, anyone have good suggestions for a reasonably inexpensive speaker/monitor set?

I'm sure you can use those, but studio monitors really do make a lot of difference. You can't trust home theatre systems, they are designed to sound "sweet".

I've seen rokit RP5's for $99....

Yo man...alot of people dont know this. But behringer monitors are where its at !!! this is not even a joke...lol these are actually really amazing monitors and suuuuupppppppperrrrr cheap.

i got a pair of fostex monitors from musicians friend for $150. thats a pair, not just one. They are my first pair of studio moniters so i cant compare them, but i am very satisfied with them.

the behringers are not well built at all. But as long as u dont move em around alot u will be ok. But the truth series sounds amazing. Some monitors that cost twice as much are not as flat and just dont comapre.

i use M-Audio BX8 studiophile (actives): directly out my Roland MV-8000 and 2 stereo powered monitors Roland CM-30 with 5 stereo input each monitor: directly to Roland MV-8000 input.
I can sampling all my gear into my MV always....when i want to sampling with my SP-404 or SP-555: then change only 2 cords ...
(input to MV__input to SP).

i think if you spent just a tiny bit more on the m-audio studiophile av 40s you'd be set.
i have no experience with those edirol monitors tho

Yeah, I was thinking about doing that too, or the Edirol MA-15Ds. Price is about right and they (both) look awesome too. Haven't heard either of them in action yet though, so I'm not sure what to do.

I don't want to spend too much money on this either, because I will be mostly working with headphones.

Oh and I need money for the MC-808 ...and MV-8800, lol, anyone care to donate some? Hahahah, for now I keep on dreaming I guess. :p

I've got the Edirol MA-15Ds now. Awesome pair of monitors, currently hooked up to my PC. Awesome sound, more than enough punch for my home studio and it's money well spend in my book! A thing I really love about it is the Phones input on the front (it mutes the speakers), this is extremely useful because it saves me from neighbors getting mad in the middle of the night. :p

Edit: Figured out my cable problem, digital out to digital in simply needs a cable with two males and I've got one of those.
