I had problems with my mpc2500 before. It broke 3 times in the last 1 n a half year. A week ago it broke again. Damn, I have no luck with that unit...

Anyway, I've went to the store and they sent it in to have it repaired. Now, today it came back. In the store I asked them to open and test it right there, cause' it already came back broke once.

This is where the weird shit comes in.
They opened it and the unit looked awful. The face plate was mounted have way and then screwed on tight, some buttons were half way under it and a lot of stuff wouldn't work. The scroll wheel was scratchin on the side of the front panel making it really fucked up to spin.

Now the magic comes in....
The store owner looked like he just've seen a ufo. Then simply said:
I'll just give you the money back.

DAAAAAAMMMMNNNN. I now have 2000 bucks to spend on other gear there I've always wanted. I'm thinking about a sp-555, the sp-606, the microkorg and all the other good stufffffffffff. I'll will get one of those, def.

Me and the 2500 was like some bad black voodoo magic.
I'm sorta' happy that it's gone, I was just not getting along with it.

Don't get me wrong, mpc's are great for making beats. Really powerful. But the built quality nowadays is a joke. Damn, fuck akai. I'm live with roland and emu forever!

I just had to share that with y'all.

don't you already have a 303 and 404

anyway if you are contimplating gear then maybe a microkorg and an alesis micron (i know alesis is owned by numark as well but this is a seriously dope synth). the combo of these 2 synths is sick. the microkorg is a lot easier to program but soundwise the micron kills it.

then you have the choice of maybe a 606 or 555?? both look pretty sick and tbh i am contemplating adding one of them to my set-up

like HS said you got 2 allready. I aint trying to diss the 555 but I dont think its worth it if you allready got 1 SP, but you got 2 man. I would suggest saving your money unless you really need those new features or your tryin to collect all the SPs. If I was you I would put dollar signs in the eyes of record store owners 8) .

2000 I'd spend a couple huns upgrading my computer. Wouldn't bother with 555 since u got the 303 and 404, the Micron does sound quite nice. Maybe look at the Kaoss Pad 3 or some other nice fx box. Maybe put a little back for a rainy day.

for arguements sake, all sp's have individual characteristics and if you owned every one then you would see how each can offer different things. for instance, the 555 is the only sp to send velocity sensing via midi (i feel like the 606 can do it via usb to soft but not 100% on that). the 505 offers that dope ass pitch pad assignment. the 808 has faders and can work as 4track recorder (plus a really deep synth). the 606 has computer integration beyond all it's counterparts. the 303 has a reputation that can't be beat plus it seems to offer superior sound quality and super(non-veloc pads). and the 202 has the best lo-fi and supposedly the best pitch shifter as well. chime in if i got something a little off.
p.s. i am selling my mpc1k for a decent amount and looking to get a 555 or a 606 to go with my 404, what would you get?
