You can only have as much samples as you have pads * padbanks so you can trigger the samples. Still, some samples can be 5 minutes and others are probably not even a second, that's why it's likely that you won't actually fill up the 1Gb.

I use two 512MB cards and 1 1Gb CF card and they are usually not completely full either.

1gb is honestly pretty useless. unless you want to to use your 404 as a recorder. I wouldnt buy ne thing bigger than 512

Regardless of how big your card is, you can only have a certain amount of samples. If you fill each pad on every pad bank, there's no more spaces for the samples to go, even though you may have memory left on the card. This is why people in this thread have reccomended using 512MB cards.

Does that make sense?

I do use my 1Gb of space by the way. With the SP606 you can import what you like to pads and overwrite them if they already have a sample, so even if you have more samples than pads to play them with, you can still import samples you don't have pads for and simply let the SP-606 overwrite them onto samples (pads) that you don't use very often.

I think it's nice to be able to sample a lot of stuff and simply sort of store them onto the compact flash card.

I could get by with 128mb cards. 10 of them is more useful than a 1GB card, for me anyway.

smoeone on here posted a tip for 1 gig cards : piggybacking multiple samples onto one pad and then marking which one you want to use at the time
