I would say it´s down to preference. I listen to my mixes through some decent studio monitors as well as my trusty old monitor headphones and through mobile devices like smartphones/laptops, heck sometimes even through car stereos. I like how they sound. I like bass heavy mixes. For you to say : "I should learn how to structure gain and use compression" seems a bit ignorant especially when the very reason for the bass cutting through the mix is sidechain COMPRESSIONr4ph431 wrote:

If you have some basic, consumer quality headphones or speakers, then yes, I could see how it would sound good.. However, anyone would with a full range set of speakers or studio monitors will clearly hear the lack of balance and gain structure in the mix.
