As for Flynns mix.. I actually have a sub through which I monitor music through and to me it sounded like he over compensated with the bass... If you have some basic, consumer quality headphones or speakers, then yes, I could see how it would sound good.. However, anyone would with a full range set of speakers or studio monitors will clearly hear the lack of balance and gain structure in the mix.
I would say it´s down to preference. I listen to my mixes through some decent studio monitors as well as my trusty old monitor headphones and through mobile devices like smartphones/laptops, heck sometimes even through car stereos. I like how they sound. I like bass heavy mixes. For you to say : "I should learn how to structure gain and use compression" seems a bit ignorant especially when the very reason for the bass cutting through the mix is sidechain COMPRESSION ;)
but hey like I said, it´s just preference

EDIT: Chopper just sent me this acapella from the battle :

How is that ignorant?

If anything I'm displaying my arrogance
And trying to give you some advice on how to mix your music.

But hey, good for you for listening to various sources I guess.

johnsondontsurf was v emotional. love the vocals, crazy to flip gilligan to something so melancholy

devee like how the samples sound so fluid under the drums

chopperman love the shufflin drums and you flipped the samples in a sick way. so sick i'm jealous

flynn got some underwater vibes make me wanna grab a blanket and a gameboy and veggie out

endorshores like the samples and the structure but the mix sounded a bit empty to me

lif came hard with that delay tech(!!) jk very good combo of chill and psychedelic, like a panic attack in my dreams

kegeratorz i can see where your going but i think you could flesh out the beat a bit more. sounds unfinished

teddyp deconstructed insanity; love the switch, wish we got a taste of that even more, let that corpse rot!

no.pulp very airy, not much of a neck breaker but cool rhythm

kid pasta don't hurt me

teewok brought the banger, tight drums and a catchy sample, perfect overlay of the acapella. sounds very organic and from another era

went with chopperman, thought it was the best combo of experimental originality and listening plezzur

Soo many great beats here it was very hard for me to choose. The ones that stood out the most were devee, chopperman, lif and no.pulp. Devee had a dope melody that you could listen to over and over again. Chopper had a nice mellow vibe throughout and when the rapping ended the beat chnaged up into something more emotional which i dug. Also nice to get a shoutout in the rap! Lif's just soundded fucking cool. Really heartfelt at times the drums kept things interesting. no.pulp flipped the script on the sample.. turned into this dark final boss type sound which I didn't think was possible with the sounds available.

Thought id be able to get my vote in on time but i fucked up...Woulda voted for chopperman

Thanks for the votes everyone! I'll try to get a new battle started up this weekend.

voted for teewok. even though the drums didn;t seem to be chopped too hard i felt it worked the best
Glad you noticed that one. My first beat actually had the drums chopped up and I didnt really mess with the pitch.. Thought it just sounded grittier and more liek a hip-hop beat with the looped drums. This is what I had beforee:
