Well I knew that this moment would arrive sooner or later...

I am selling my both SP's the 404 and the 505 and my old turntables. They where good samplers for more than two years to me. But I have to move on. I gained a lot knowledge both from sp-forums (btw. You, guys, rock!!) and by manually learning my great samplers. But I just feel that I have outgrown them. And because I am finishing up with high school and with the huge change in my life I feel about letting them both go. Last 3 months I have not managed to touch any of them thus I would feel better if someone like me would experience great time with these machines and use them to their fullest potential.

Of course I will still continue to make beats in my spare time from the job but with the changes in my style (I'm still into ol'school stuff but a bit deeper and different) and my life I decided to do this.

SP's are still dope samplers and like them a lot maybe some years later I would even buy another one to just remember how I used to rock them. But this is something that time will dictate...

yeah, eventually youll be back. You should keep at least one sampler just so you can say you had it for x years when you get older and if you ever feel like getting back to it then its right there. If you are still gonna make beats what gear are you getting?

no. don't blame girls - this is not the case. i am having a lot on my plate currently thus i do not have enough time for production. but my current setup is: mpc1000, behringer truth monitors, tapco/mackie 260fx mixer, tascam cdrw900sl recorder, technics sl1210mk5 & a zoom h2 for vocals and ambient recordings. thank you for the good words, just ask if you need something. cheers,

If I were you id at least keep the 404 maybe just for fx. mpc1000 is really lackin in that area. Either way keep it raw man, I really liked your videos, its too bad you leavin.

it doesnt have as many as the SPs but the MPC 1k has all the basic fx like reverb, filters, distortion(called bit grunger), eq, compression, and maby a couple others.

i was thinking about this and had a discussion with somebody recently about this.

let's say 1 person has an MPC 2500 and another guy has an SP-303 and they are both given the same sample to flip. it may be easier to chop and stuff on MPC but with out board FX processors you are just basically triggering your samples in different orders. in effect this is why the MPCs are so dope. they are good samplers, they allow you to easily chop your samples up and trigger them in different orders. the SP series with is built in FX allow you to mangle and alter the sound a lot thereby giving you lots more creative possibilities.

although it may be harder to chop up a sample into numerous pieces in the SP it can still be done pretty quick when you get pretty handy at manually chopping by ear.

Actually I was not using so much those 'not standard' effects on 404/505 so I cant say I really miss them. For what I am producing now I use only REVERB, DELAY, and sometimes FLYING PAN. Not much to say. I even do not use PITCH ADJUST and TIMESTRETCHING on 1k (used pitch only once).

We are recording an short LP with 10 songs which will be released only on WAX no CD's. I am producing it and it will contain my style of production developed to a higher degree with more deeper and smarter approach than before. I feel that 404/505 and 1k has raised my musical skills up to a new level. I feel a bit different about this whole thing now. The last day when I was packing/cleaning the 404 and 505 up I played with them for the last time. With 505 it was all ok because I used it quite recently (3or 4months ago) but when I turned on the 404 at first I was like HOW THE FCUK I WAS ABLE TO DO MY BEATS ON THIS! But a few seconds later I was back to sampling from a tv show sequencing my drums (with incredible swing) and lastly made a full beat for the buyer to poke around with at first. So what I am saying is that these machines gave me a lot of knowledge... they are really slept on.

I like them but on the other side people told me to not sit on them when I am not using them at all thats why they are going. Sad but thats the way to keep on going.

Next year I am probably going to sell my whole gear setup because I am going to leave my country to study abroad and thus I would be glad if those machines will not going to sit around and collecting dusk. But that is something in the future to come and we will see.
