drums first or sample first?


if drums how to do you get you samples timing aligned with the drums correctly?

i find it easier to do samples first then the drums because i can hear the drum sequence better.

just wondering if you guys have any other techniques to use when resampling ...

a lot of times ill do the drums first tbh. then ill just play with the sample chops, and then change the drums bpm accordingly. you can time stretch drums without it damaging the sound as much as if you were to do it to the sample

Drums first for me too, but what ever you want loudest is good to layer last as resample kinda washes sounds out after a few times. Sometimes my kick will sound weak as shit after all the resamples, so I might throw a fresh 808 on top to add more depth. That being said it's also fun to take a single piano note or string sound or something similar and resample and add effects until its a new sound. Like heavy distortion and some filter on a bass line can make a nice synth sound.

I feel like you limit yourself a lot more by doing the drums first.. ive found that ill have a bunch of samples chopped up with the intention of using a certain beat/bpm and then ill hear something "in between" the chops and it will change the whole rhythm... but who knows? my shit always ends up sounding very obviously driven by everything but the drums so maybe I should switch it up

it depends, but i usualy put the drums over the sample, cause then i can take out or ad kicks, snare or hi-hats.

depends on your flow . drums first if its keyboard next . if sample next sometimes layer drums over sample

i normally use the drums first. and save my drums with no melody on it. so i'l have it to make different patterns. i'll make the drums then layer a melody of it. like one pattern. so that pattern will be on a pad. i'll have the drums still and make other patterns to switch it up. basically i put a bunch of separate patterns on separate pads and then play them in sequence together. like once i have all the patterns i think will work i'll trigger them with w/e pad there on and play them like i'm playing anything else. hit pad(play pattern 1) hit second pad (play pattern 2) ect. and like. how i add a drum roll i'll cut everything out on the eq and do it live
