hmm, I use audacity mostly for converting, or just my song mp3 recorder, whatever mode you record as, is what it will save the file to when you drag it to your computer. and the encoder is grainyer than those ultra clear DAW encoders.

im actually looking for something to play short 1 shots and dig thru folders and stuff and preview sounds to sample in or move to a card. I saw one around, so I'll share it when I find it.

Actually in osx you can do exactly what you're talking about. If you have a folder of one shots you just highlight the file you want to preview and press the space bar on the file to make it play thru. If you want to hear the other files in the folder you just go up or down with the arrow keys and it will play the file one by one. When previewing you can also scrub thru the audio file to play th section you want.
