Trouble with connecting SP-404sx to 2i4 to Ableton
I've been asking around for the past week since I got my 2i4 but it was to no avail.
Any help would be appreciated, I've been messing around with my gear but I keep reaching a dead end as I can't hear ANYTHING. I'll try and give you a picture of what I'm working with, perhaps I'm going wrong somewhere.
1. Connected my 2i4 audio interface to my SP-404 with 1/4 TS-RSA cables (input to output and vice versa)
2. My 2i4 is connected to my macbook through USB
3. In my audio preferences on Ableton input and output are configured to the 2i4
4. When working with a sample, I put the external audio effect, if I'm correct it should look like this (I've attached a screenshot of it),
Anyway I can't hear a thing??? Where am I going wrong here?
Thank you in advance.

Re: Trouble with connecting SP-404sx to 2i4 to Ableton
is it just the 404 sound you can't hear?
could check your rca cable is connected to (output & not input)
alternatively . sample the 404 via its headphone port (may need different cable .. specifically :stereo 1/4 jack to dual mono 1/4 jack)
hope this solves it
maybe need to unplug the soundcard to reset the data signal
.. let me know how you get on ..
peace peace

I had a hell of time with this too and my USB sound card. Not in front of Ableton nor can I remember what worked now but play with monitoring on the audio track to hear the 404. Also I just had to select input 1/2 as well as the output. Card should be labeled accordingly.

Yeah I can't just hear the 404, but I also can't hear the sample. Literally Ableton is completely silent. I double checked to make sure the cables were in the right ports, and they are. I seriously don't know where I'm going wrong, and I can't find anything about it.
I tried unplugging the soundcard, still no sound.

Sorry, I'm kind of a noob when it comes to technicalities of Ableton (hence the struggle lol), do you mean that I should select Monitor: 'In' rather than 'Auto'?

The switch should be on LINE, am I correct?
Anyway I've tweaked around according to your reponses, so here's some screenshots of an example track, maybe you can see what I'm doing wrong here, because I can't hear a dang thing at all. Not even a peep. You can't even hear other audio tracks.
Thanks again.

Here's my setting in Ableton Lite. I am no expert, just a poke and hope.

aha .(on screenshot 2) where it says monitor . select that option . maybe a case of ableton not having automatic feedback during input . it might worth trying to record the channel and seeing if it creates a waveform

.. on screenshot 4 . it might be worth looking at 'core audio ' for driver settings .(might need to review any other options) it looks like you've got everything set right

im guessing your 2i4 isnt connected to speakers?
change your "output audio device" to the standard macbook output soundcard. cant remember exactly what its called.

Re: Trouble with connecting SP-404sx to 2i4 to Ableton
I’m not even sure if this is what you’re asking but you could try going RCA OUT on the 404>1/2 on 2i4 and out the mains of your 2i4 in to RCA IN on the 404. right
so in Ableton create an audio channel, set its input to 1/2 and it should be output to master by default. Create another audio channel and set that to resample. Mute that channel so it’ll record whatever’s being played but won’t create feedback.
Definitely a cool work around and then you can resample back into the 404 to add effects or some live shit.
