404SX Bad/Incompatible SD card?

I've noticed at times when playing back a pattern with effects engaged(usually #12) the 404SX will kind of slow down and stutter for a few seconds and then resume normal playback. (Now I don't think I'm hitting an polyphony ceilings at this point since it will happen even when 1 stereo sample is playing back)

Is this simply a bad/incompatible sd card or is there perhaps something wrong with the 404s dsp?
