bass ...

Post by eelxb »

do you use the subsonic or do you use an external bass?

i used to sample the bass straight from the record. since the Sp doesn't have a low pass filter, now i just boost the bass instead of filtering and change the way i chop.

just wondering how some of you all go about using bass.

also ... for subsonic ... are you just creating the bass note?

the subsonic is coo if you can match the note of your kick to it. that way any time the kick hits it activates the subsonic for a little extra oomph in ur kick. also you can match it to whatever bass note you want and turn the mix all the way up, then resample. and what do you mean the sp doesnt have a filter? theres like 4 ways to filter out a bass tone directly from a sample, one good way is to use the c.canceler effect, then resample and filter it more, then resample again and isolate it. just get crafty. or plug in da synth and get canadian wit it

On a side not for bass effects, if you use the chromatic PS(pitch shift) effect you can
Effects knob 1 and 2 to dial in an root and 5th or root and octave to fatten a baseline or get interesting harmonics. I think that's the trick to the madlib wobble type bass.. You could hit a bass with the c.canceler to low pass essentially then add the chromatic PS the fatten up and then slap some chorus on for fun.

I'd never be without mine. I picked it up for £50, on eBay. Put some tape wound strings on it, and you've got a poor mans upright.

No, but I'd like to. I watched a YouTube review of one and couldn't believe my ears. It doesn't seem possible for that little thing, to produce that tone.
GAS, for a ubass :D
