Basic questions about Sp404sx

Post by vox1 »

I am interested in gettting 404sx, but I can’t find anything offline to try out, so asking here. Basically looking for an easy to use, affordable sampler that can do long realtime samples+ simple beats. so my question is….

-Does sx come with a basic drum (and other sound) presets? I plan to use for more vocal sampling but want some beats as well.

-If so, how is the drum preset? Is it like MC505? That’s the only Roland I've used.
I am using Machinedrum which is great but sampling is a big pain, so I wonder if I’d be still satisfied if I replace Machinedrum for the 404.

-How easy is it to navigate? Easy to make a simple beat pattern? Fun to use?
I’ve used too much computer and just want a simple hardware only.

Thanks in advance!

The drums that come with it are shit yo, just get another sd card and load your own drums, basically the sd cards are the entire memory bank, nothing is left behind on the 404, unless you have the 404 og, which has banks A and B left on the 404. Besides that the thing is a breeze to move around and to work with, no menu diving and everything you want to get to is just a button press away.

Also, tip for the future, the 404 runs faster with bigger cards, so just get some 16gb ones and you are good to go.

Cool, thanks.
So I guess ditching my MD might not be a good idea then.
I think I will just get it and play around with it. :)

Are you saying that the OG 404 runs faster with cards bigger than 1gb? I have the OG 404, and the 404sx on its way. Curious about using bigger cards with the OG.

Im guessing it would, though it mostly applies if you have much longer samples or just one shots and drum sounds on there. Im not sure what the card limit for the og 404 is thou, but I know the sx can hold 32 gigs atleast.

I've seen someone else here say they partition a 16gb card for the OG. I may look into this more and go that route. sorry to have hijacked the thread with my questions...
