SP-404SX Powering Off Randomly

Post by brockhardcastle »

Hello

I have an issue with my 404SX and can't find any info anywhere. It appears to power off after a time of being on and not being used. This is not the sleep function. Sometimes I have to unplug the unit, then plug back in and flick the switch to get it back up. Others just flicking the switch off and then on again works.

Anyone have any idea what may be happening? I bought it last year brand new and haven't gigged with it. It's maybe got 2 hours of use on it.

Thanks!

Hi,
Are you sure sure this is not the "sleep mode"?

Definitely not sleep mode. There are not lights on it when it does this, it shuts off after an extended period of inactivity (not five minutes like Sleep), and I'm unable to get it back on without hitting the power switch off and back on. Sometimes that doesn't work and I have to switch off, unplug, plug back in, switch on.

i got a similar issue, but i think mine has a "faux-contact" (doesn't know the word in english haha)
Do you use a Roland PSU or generic one? Also do you have the same issue while using batteries?

I'm using the PSU that came with the unit. I'll give it a shot with batteries.

When you say faux-contact, you think it might be an issue with the PSU?

Maybe the psu itself or the psu input jack (soldering issue on the motherboard or something like that, for an aged sx like mine)
only thing i can say is: try with another one (and with batteries fcourse), it's the only way to know if yours is faulty or not

Hey does this only happen if you have the cord in or not? If it only happens with the cord, it might be an issue with either the power supply or the power jack.
