How do you listen?

What do you usually listen to/make music on? Headphones? Regular hi-fi stereo? Dedicated studio monitors? I personally use headphones like 90% of the time but I'm trying to get away from that cuz I feel like it's bad for my ears. The other thing I use is my Sony hi-fi stereo I got at Walmart like 7 years ago, usually with the sub off and eq on flat. Curious how other people listen to/make music.

hesitate to grab a sony mdr 7506, saw good opinions on sp forums and everywhere on internet... seems to be a serious reference.

most of the time i use the Event 2030's (7" studio monitors) for mixing.

also use desktop Logitecs Z623 w/sub for reference or if i'm too lazy to turn the interface and monitors on ha.. so much bang for your buck! these are what i use for general music listening. adjustable sub as well.

i use the Sony 7506's as well for reference but I find they lack some bass, amazing for mixing mids and highs though, great for vocals.

i also reference on Roland RH-200s headphones, i really like them..


headphones can sure get tiring but if you're gonna try mixing on monitors without at least a semi-treated room then you might find yourself reaching back for your headphones.. i dunno.. its nice to have both though!

When my roommates aren't home, I bump a Yamaha NS-10 and a old KLH Model Six.
After midnight I get on my 4 track with a pair of Sony MDR-7506 headphones.

But my fav is working at night job listening to internet radio from all over the world in a spiffy corporate restaurant.
And keeping my ear open for samples and then looking up the records to buy off Discogs.

A girlfriend of mine DJs at a club and they got a dope system for bass. Sometimes she slips in some music for me to see if I'll crack a smile. Bitches love to get in a dude's ear. I rather hear music (or moans) rather than winey bitchy voices anyhow.

I also usually use headphones and have been for 10 years and I'm disappointed in the lack of hearing damage. The city sounds are loud as ever. I'm kidding of course but I truely wish I could turn my public input volume down

I've got these Bose Noise canceling headphones that work eerily well keeping out "public input".. They sound nice too.

Might have to look into those. Couldn't rock them when riding my bike though, since I have to listen for traffic. Just wish the traffic wasn't so loud sometimes. When I'm close to some noisy bus brakes, sirens, or a honking horn those seem more likely to damage my hearing than headphones. although it is pretty brutal when you hit the wrong effect and get blasted with volume. Thats probably my least favorite part of making beats, but it wouldn't happen if I'd be more mindful so maybe its a blessing in disguise.
As far as listening while riding my bike, the Philips BT2200 portable speaker is fantastic. Can't tell you how many times I've dropped it and it still sounds great. Waterproof too.
