sp-505 as midi controller

Post by ellaguru »

hi
today i've tried the 505 to control my old akai remix 16 a sampler from the '90.
i connect 505>midi out>midi in>remix 16>. i put the 2 machine on the same midi channel. everytime i try (auto, midi, int or remote) the sp-505 play notes as pitch in the remix 16. plus, it plays 2 or 3 samples togheter...

what i want is to play only the sample as it is in order to sequence it with the 505 (the remix 16 has a not very useful and very primitive sequencer). i've tried this operation with the yamaha qy70 and it works. i want to know if someone of you has experience on this.
thanx

did you use the qy70 to sequence the remix16 or did you use the sp-505 to sequence the qy70? on page 83 of the 505 manual it explains the program change; how all the pads are a specific note, and this, i think, cannot be changed. i bet it's the remix 16. do you like the remix16, can it loop on the fly, why is it cool?
insert funny comment here.

hi thanx.
i sequenced the remix 16 with the qy70; i think i found the problem: the first 16 pads of the remix 16 has 0>15 midi notes. plus, note18 is coresponding to play and note22 is corresponding to sequence. the qy70 arrive to play from note4 to 127. the sp-505 start from note36...so i can't play with the remix 16. i have to read better what it says at page 83.

about the remix 16:
i've got it from 1996. it's a question of affect. very cool sound. imagine an akai s-950 with pads and you will be not so far. you can sample and loop on the fly. it has some sp-1200-like editing features (the sample repeats itself at the place you want). a crossfader. live pitching/scratching (not a very good scratch indeed).
but it's very limited. just 1 bank. no fx. very primitive sequencer. no metronome. only 30 sec of sampling (but you can improve this). no resample. pads hard to press.
it was conceived for live djing at the time.

Hello mate did you ever resolve this issue, I'm still trying to sequence my s20 using the 505, pads 13 14 15 and 16 trigger pads 1 2 3 and 4 on the s20... It will trigger the pads in a pattern sequence also

Thanks

hi
wow, what an old thread,no? : ) times...
listen, i didn't tried since then to operate with the 2 machines...but you're on the right search, as the s20 and the remix16 are the same machine (except some obvious things)
anyway, i was talking to this cool guy some year ago, about midi on s20-remix16 (i'm yopphoy on youtube)maybe it's interesting to you to give a check

btw, i know the 505 can midi out 4 channels (4 parts multitimbrical), and that s cool, i used once with my mc-909 and it worked
check also the sp606 forum, i also have this machine, i remeber we posted interesting find on the midi side about the 606 and the 505

i once sequenced a yamaha tx81z, now i remeber, so this is possible but in a limited way...i mean you have to choose one specified bank i think, and only that bank will work...but check also the 606 forums, maybe thare are other notices about that...
