How do you collaborate?

Post by Aligrafi »

Hey,

I'm currently doing a research project at my college about remote music collaboration and would like to hear how you guys collaborate with other people online.

I have seen a lot of you guys on here do collaborations, i would like to know how this works.

Do you send each other files like drum tracks or samples?

Or do you use cloud based software for real time music collabs online?

If you don't like doing it, then tell me why.

Thanks in advance.

I've attempted many of these but it really comes down to who you're working with. It could be as easy as bouncing files off each other, e-mailing back and forth or chatting on instant messenger..

In my experience, only about 20% of the collaborations attempted ever turn into something.

I've never used cloud based software to create music.

i like collaboring with people to create unique beats or with singer (not really rappers : they say too much bullshits  )

Send other each other files is the common way i think but like raphael said the 2 who's collabo MUST be motivated bc if not ... nothing happens

i often start collab with people then they disapear...

cloud based software sounds amazing

I worked with a writing partner and we produced and released an album together using our macs, and dropbox.

He wrote and produced and arranged the songs, and I did all of the vocal tracks. He would dropbox me a rough stereo mix, I would import into Logic and add all of the vocal tracks, harmonies, etc., then I would dropbox the files back to him for final mixing.

We never recorded together, but we did meet at Starbucks now and then to talk about progress and other issues.

The album is on Bandcamp:
Band: Built for the Future
Album: Chasing Light
