I like the resample method so much that I only tried the sequencer once. Might try that 99 bar approach though, eventually. Here's a simplified example of how I get down-- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eheO2yqyJVs

Sup y'all,
This form opened my eyes to resampling. I've been a pattern maker for years.
The beats I've posted on the forum have been resample beats. I concider them studies for now. Not sure I'm satisfied with them, but I also haven't really made pattern beats I saw this thread not long ago. I suppose both are a matter of how you freak'em and what you are prone to do well, I guess. I voted both, cause I think they both have their values. Resampling is forcing me to be tighter on the chop arrangements and make it much easier to use sounds chopps that my have a time/sync change associated.
Having several samplers or a 4track and a notepad handy, IMO can make pattern work concerning time changes etc a doable thing...
my two cents

i usually resample my samples so they are a sequence and then when I'm recording the beat, play the drums/sound bites etc live. I actually really like finger drumming along because you have a lot of flexibility, you can do pauses etc on the fly.
I definitely need to spend some time with the pattern editor but to me it looks like the there are pros and cons to both, so guess its whatever you find the least limiting creatively.

You have fingers elsewhere other than your hands?

i dont want to cut off the pattern select to spite the 404 but to me the button doesn't exist
Re: Resample Method or Pattern Sequencer (member poll)
Full on pattern sequencer.
My style has a purposefully sloppy/messy quality to it, and you have to be extremely disciplined to make that sound work. I draw influence from lots of stuff outside of hip hop/beat music, and if you listen to proper wild rock bands there's often this tightness that underpins all the mess. One of my fave albums is 'Accelerator' by Royal Trux, which is noisy a.f. but still very precise in a counterintuitive way. The mess comes more from sound design and the overall mix. Quantising drums in the pattern sequencer gives me the rigid skeleton I need to heap all the other shit on top.

I use the pattern method. Simply because I can use work arounds and mute the sounds i want to track them one by one with the Roland UM-ONE (to sync the midi clock). Record each sound through my interface and onto my DAW for further processing. You can't do that in resample mode.

only time i use the resample button is when i'm chopping up samples
