Real-time vs audio record

Just wondering if anyone has much luck with real-time recording? Personally I usually use the step recorder and can fly around the machine using it, but being inspired by some of the more free flowing hiphop beats of the other sp users have been having a play with real-time recording. But generally find the real-time recording and quantise function pretty crap on the 808. I have found recording pad presses on audio record better. Saying that, I find the pads a bit naff from the sensitivity point of view and have been having a play using a midi keyboard to trigger the pads, seems much better as they are velocity sensitive.
