power supply buzzing?

Post by abé »

so i've been using a non-psb1u 9v power supply that was advertised as being suitable for 404's, and i've had no real issue with it besides a faint buzzing noise being heard when the 404 (og) is at louder volumes.

it sounds like this (featuring me fucking around with the volume knob)
https://soundcloud.com/aaaabe/404-og-humming/s-WMfUK

i was wondering if this was an inherent thing that all 404's had (to add to the dirt? lol) or if i should invest in a psb1u for a clearer sound. thx yall.

edit: upped the buzzing to soundcloud instead

You're better off buying the Roland Power supply as the cheaper replacements usually have these issues. You get what you pay for. So it'll be money well spent.

good point! on another note, i went to put batteries in to check if it was the machine or the cord, and it turns out my sp isn't accepting the batteries at all. the problem is the red connector in the back, which got unsoldered. gonna see if this one electronics place near me can fix it up.
