606 ??

peace- i am thinking of getting the 606 and just wanted to know if you are able to access the sample edit screen while a pattern is playing. Can you do things in realtime like trim the sample as the pattern plays out? Also when u sample on the long mode setting is that the same as the lofi setting on the 404/303 ?? thanks in advance

hey man; I'm on holidays at the moment so I'll have to check the 'realtime sample editing' capabilities when I get home, which is only about two days away, so I'll let you know soon. I haven't done it myself, as I play out live mostly and editing samples on the fly would just be silly with so many things to think about already!!! I would imagine that it wouldn't be a problem, so long as the sample you wanted to access wasn't IN the pattern that was playing...we'll see though...

The long mode is similar to the 404. Having said that, I don't see the real need for it, as with a compact flash card you have all the sample time you'll ever need...

As you've no doubt discovered by now you CANNOT edit samples while a pattern is playing. Damn. It's pretty easy to understand why though, as with external input and compact flash RAM, you've already got more processing going on than most other samplers in this price range. Having all the effects turn on and processing external audio in realtime cuts down on the processing power of others in this range (like the MPC500), so just not being able to edit samples while a pattern is playing is small price to pay! I play live anyway and you never want to be creating 'surprises' on stage....I guess that's why I'd never come across this 'limitation' before!

thanks for the info!! i still am going to cop the 606 regardless. Also can you let me know if you can use it via usb to trigger software while also being able to use your internal sp606 samples? or is it just one or the other at a time? thanks peace

No worries man...I've never really used the 606 to control software but it seems from other posts here that it's a pain in the arse to set up. And yes, it's INT or EXT control one-at-a-time; not both together (I think that would confuse both machine and user anyway, but maybe I'm just an old fart!).

You can use the 606 to contol P606 no worries, or even Cakewalk Kinetic. Both programs cop a lot of flak but they can use any sounds you put into them and process them with any effects you have (how many free vst effects do we all have eh?) so you can get a lot from them with a little work. Better than spending thousands on more software just to make life easier...The best thing about the P606 software is that the EXT SEQ SAMPLING function on the sp606 works so well with them - you make your sounds on the software and then transfer the results to the hardware with no fuss whatsoever. It's great for setting up a live show, believe me!

Sorry to revive an old topic, but you actually can use both INT and EXT functions at the same time. Just press the INT and EXT buttons at the same time...
