I connected it to my speakers and I hear the distinctive low hum but when I press the pads there is no sound. I've tried using headphones but the problem seems to persist there. Is there something I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated.

SP 404sx output not working
Hey guys so my sp 404 powers on, pads light up, and otherwise acts normally but there is no output volume.
I connected it to my speakers and I hear the distinctive low hum but when I press the pads there is no sound. I've tried using headphones but the problem seems to persist there. Is there something I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated.

What outputs did you use?
What cord?
Do you hear a difference in hum when you turn up and down the volume?

I'm using RCA cables and attaching them to speakers. Funny thing is that this always worked until recently.

Re: SP 404sx output not working
This is tricky, it's not a volume knob problem because it is still emitting noise. Could it be a cord or data corruption issue? Try using the mic. If that fails to work try using the 1/4 inch jack and test a pad or the mic. If that works then the problem will either be your cord or the RCA's on your SP. Be sure to post back if any of this works.

I tried using the 1/4 jack and using the mic but they still don't work. The peak lights up for the mic though.

Yep, the inputs need to be fixed. Not anything you would be able to work out yourself. Good news is since it was just working it probably only needs to be resoldered.

So should I send my 404 directly to Roland? Or do you know if there someone else who could fix it? Thanks for the help btw

3 options:
Sell
get fixed by roland:https://www.roland.com/us/support/service_repair/
Get fixed by my guy:http://www.innermuze.com/
Roland cost $80 an hour, my guy cost $50 an hour. Hes fixed my 202, 303, and 404 all without a problem. But, Roland is Roland sooo... you decide. Another question, so did it just stop working out of the blue? Was there any trauma? Even the most slightest drop or knock could fuck your shit up.
