Yeah right... Maximum Polyphony 8 voices ... thanks but no thanks.
well, i've never run out....how many 'voices' does a live band have????
besides, how do you use all those voices with a one-track sequencer? How many fingers you got? Sheeesh, peeps get hung up on the most mind-numbing things.. Why does human nature always seem to look for negatives? Why even have this thread here? Shouldn't it be on Roland's forum? I thought this was a positive place. I suppose I came across wrong, so it's my fault. I didn't mean **** the 404, get a 606 - I meant, get one AS WELL!!!! Still less than an MPC! And five million times better.

why do u think the sp-X0x are better then a MPC?Just curious cuz i have a sp404 and a mpc but end up always usin the sp404!just like to hear other peoples thoughts on this great machine!
Things that suck about MPCs:
Horrible workflow - supposed to be easy but, hell no, look at the MPC forums with all the noobs asking what look like dumb questions until you realise that the MPC is as unintuitive as it gets.
The sound - No real weight to it (the older ones sound better than the new ones tho'). The reason why MPC-heads love all those sequencer tacks is so that they can use a COMPUTER to add effects/compression etc to their beats to make them sound fat.
The pads - worst ever. Not sensitive enough and if they aint broke yet they soon will be.
Effects - there are none. Oh wait, there's a couple of crappy ones.
Filters - having both side by side, with the same sample playing, is a good way to hear the difference.
Lack of decent timestretching - how hard is it getting stuff in time on an MPC. Too hard.
Sample Time - can you record the entire vocal for your track on the MPC?????
Audio Through - I could not go on stage without this feature; thus the MPC is no good for me at all.
Finally, everyone's got one. I hate to sound like everyone else!
I had an MPC back in 2000; got rid of it when I realised it just wasn't all it was cracked up to be...

Whart has the number of tracks in a sequencer to do with the number of voices used in a track?

Your average drumkit uses already up to 6 voices easily, which leaves me another 6 voices for bass and other samples. So I must say that 12 voices is no luxury to me.
Most of your arguments against the MPC make no sense since there is no MPC but many different MPC types which all have their strengths and weaknesses just like any box out there. And you know that you wouldn't make it in a blind test and recognize which beat was made with an MPC and which one was made with another box. Workflow and the appreciation thereof lies completely with the (wo)man not the machine.
No sense? My arguments apply to all MPC's. I have used all of them apart from the 4000.
Yes, the workflow is a personal thing - Nevertheless, people use logic/sonar/pro tools/FL/abelton/cubase/acid/kinetic/reason...........all with no preciousness about the workflow. With software, people seem to understand the fact that different programs work for different people. Hardware is different because people vehemently defend the operation of their respective machine as if it was a family-member. It's ridiculous and quite irrational.
What makes no sense is being stuck on ONE thing. Like ployphony. Again, I'll ask how many voices a live band has?? Or to simplify it even further; how about an SH101? That's right, only 1 lil' ol' voice. And my one-voice SH is the pride of my arsenal.............More voices does not beget better music.
As for the blind test - are you joking? You really belive you couldn't recognise the obese sound of the SP beat??????????
Anyway, the MPC does not work for me, I don't like it. It's not against the law.
Different smokes for different blokes I guess.
