Line-in switching off after loop recorded with foot pedal??

So when I record a loop using the foot pedal (just some generic one I bought used), the input switches off after I end the loop. It's sort of annoying if you want to just keep adding parts on the fly. Is there a way to fix this or is that the way it works?
