chopping samples technique questions

I'm a pretty new SP user and was wonder what do you guys do when your chopping your samples on the SP.
So far I just record a sample into the SP, re-sample the same sample on 8 pads, and do my best cut them individually into 1/4 or 1/2 beats like you would on a MPC. Maybe its because I'm still learning and training my ear, but this way seems pretty long.
i had the idea of bouncing the samples from the SP to Ableton to chop them but i feel its not as authentic as doing it strictly on the SP.

any tips would be greatly appreciated.

i would just do it like how you are doing it. Recording into the sp, then chopping and resampling onto several pads.

why you resample the whole sample to different pads? SX can copy samples.

this is probably the fastest way, copy the whole sample and mark the chops you want (and probably truncate after that) or record the whole sample to pad 1, mark the start of your second chop, copy that to pad 2 then truncate, copy to pad 3, mark start, etc.

this is probably the fastest way, copy the whole sample and mark the chops you want (and probably truncate after that) or record the whole sample to pad 1, mark the start of your second chop, copy that to pad 2 then truncate, copy to pad 3, mark start, etc.

Yeah i meant copy, dunno why i said resample, but i like that second method you mentioned. ill try that. thanks.

yeah this is probably the fastest method on the sx....

here is a step by step guide from lordarekkusu (404 tips tricks: the mark mystery + the delete disaster-thread)

1. Get a 4-bar (or whatever) loop on Pad 1.
2. Mark the first chop, no end point (note: you only can mark with no end point if you put the first mark - press pad 1, mark, press pad 1 again -, otherwise, we wouldn't be doing this at all)
3- Now you got pad 1 playing from the first chop without an end point. Func + Copy to pad 2.
4. Now you got pad 2 playing with a mark point in the beginning and no end point. If you try to press Mark again it will return to the beginning and tha's not what you want. Here is the thing you missed:
5.Press pad 2 with the mark in the beginning and Del + Mark + Del to truncate the first part of the sample on pad 2.
6. Now you got pad 2 playing from the mark point with NO (because you truncated it) mark, so you can Press again Mark e repeat steps 2-6
7- When you are on pad 3 (third chop) Press Del+Mark+Del and then repeat again all these steps and you will be chopping the sample
8. in the end and only if you want, go to each sample and loop it using the mark button at the start and the end (note: you will have to have notion on the next pad start point to loop it correctly and emulate that MPC style that you play all chops perfectly chopped.
9. truncate all the loops you have marked

good lord! I haven't even thought of that. I'm going to try that method. appreciate it!

I usually record whatever chops i feel is nice into my 404sx pads instead of recording an entire song onto a pad and resampling from one pad, that seems like a lot to do. ill make my melodies on the next bank maybe 1 to 3 loops and then dump them into ableton.
