Re: CF / SD card compatibility list (SP 404 + SP 404SX)
i'm having probelms on my og 404 whilst resampling--loops will start skipping and looping before their set end point thus negating the ability to create songs through the resampling method. this is not a problem when most samples have been deleted off the external banks but i like to keep drum hits on all banks and just leave one bank empty for loops. don't want to do backups or delete the drums i've spent time chopping and EQing. think its a 1GB sandisk but could be wrong need to check when i get home. this has been addressed before could someone point me to the appropriate thread or do i need a smaller card?
Re: CF / SD card compatibility list (SP 404 + SP 404SX)
Hi folks. Just picked up a used 404 today, along with the official Roland 1 GB compact flash card. The 404 works fine, but like many others I can't get it to power on when I insert the CF card. Most users seem only to experience this problem using different brands of flash cards though. Has anyone had this problem with the Roland model? I'm assuming it's either a defective flash card or some internal issue with the 404, hopefully the former. Any advice?

Same thing happened to me last night. your CF card just doesnt work anymore. Take it out and try turning your sp back on again it should work.

Kingston SD4/8GB
Kingston 16GB Class 6 (ultimate 100K) [SD6G2/16GB]
LX Series 32GB Class 10 [PSF32GSDHC10-PC]
Panasonic SDHC 4GB card silver
PNY SDHC 4GB
SanDisk Ultra 8GB (FW update required)
Sandisk 32gb class 4
Silicon power 8go SDHC
Yesterday, I bought the 32GB Patriot LX Series that's on the list for $7 on ebay. Then I remembered that I have a Sandisk 8GB Class 2 Micro SDHC with an adaptor laying around since 2009. I wasn't sure if it was gonna work. But I formatted it, sampled into it, and imported a huge folder of breaks. I also have a 2GB Sandisk Micro SD that I got with the 8GB. It should work as well. But I got other shit stored on that card.
Re: CF / SD card compatibility list (SP 404 + SP 404SX)
My 32gb card just arrived today and I'm a happy camper. Thanks to everyone here for the info. I didn't wanna venture into unkown territory with anything above class 10 cards, even though UHS-1 cards like the Sandisk Ultra have been reported to work. I don't know if anything above UHS-1 will work or not. But I have a feeling that the speed difference of all these working cards wont affect the performance of the SP. I haven't noticed any difference between class 2 or class 10. The SP isn't anywhere near as demanding as a camcorder. I haven't read about any performance issues like I've read about with previous models using CF and Smartmedia cards. I'm sure many of you are aware of all this info. But I thought it would be helpful to any newcomers looking to save a little time and money.

1GB Transcend CF cards work at 133x but not any lower. Tested with two cards for several years

i second that. Those Transcend are the ones i find the most online or second hand (im in France) its getting very difficult to find 1go CF for OG 404...and honestly i cant afford to spend 15$ or 20$ everytime to just try if it will work...
Maybe we should start a small company and build our own Universal Compact Flash

MY OG 404 RUNS WITH A TRANSCEND 133X 1GB SMART MEDIA SINCE YEARS AND I NEVER HAD PROBLEMS.
DO YOU CHECKED YOUR FIRMWARE VERSION ? UPLOAD TO THE LAST
I HAVE A MAXFLASH 80X 1GB WHO WORKS FINE TOO.
I RARELY CHANGE SMART MEDIA, I HAVE ONE FOR EACH 404 SINCE ALWAYS
