Organise!

Post by cartesia »

I just reorganised (Thats right uncle sam... its spelt with an S!) my 'studio' if you could call it that...

And it has made a HUGE impact on my motivation to write music. . amazingly so... Now that I have things setup well, I can just hit "on" and start jamming. . before alot of the time I wouldnt bother, because I would have to set things up, reach awkward places to get to my gear, etc...

So a word for the wise, organise your habitat for maximum motivation & efficiency ~ It really does work!

Here's a pic of my new super-organised setup (the 2-tiered desk is the single most wonderful thing ever invented!)

I like how you have mouse pads or something under the speaker box to block signal noise when your mixing. I like homemade studio gadgets, I made a pop screen last night for a friend for about $10 in materials. I only have a 303, microkorg, and a macbook, so it's pretty easy to setup anywhere. The only thing holding me back is that the 303 isn't battery powered like my microkorg and laptop.

Yeah, sometimes I just roll out to the park and play in the sun after a day of skating in Berkeley.

They're slip-mats from my ttables!

The speakers themselves are actually pretty dodgy hha - stole them from my home mini-hifi, and combined them with a home-theatre sub underneath the table (the sub has terrible defninition, but it at least lets me hear that there are sub frequencies there and if they're too loud/quiet).. planning on picking up monitors soon though.

Unfortunately my turntables dont have a home at the moment thanks to the desk re-structure. . not sure What I'm gonna do about that. .. I very rarely get my samples off vinyl though so it's not too much of a deal... and can't really afford vinyl after crashin my car...

I'm thinking about getting some stands to put either side of my desk for the speakers, then I will have room for some more stuff on the upper level bit of the desk - probably a turntable & mixer

nitrotracker is a tracker program (oldschool music production) that someone made for nintendo DS,

To get said program to run on your DS.. . well here's a few sites that should clue you in:

http://eng.supercard.cn/
http://www.r4ds.com/r4.htm

These devices are shaped like a DS cartridge, and allow you to plug a standard storage card into them (some micro SD, etc)

So you get one of these things, get a decent sized card,
download nitrotracker here:
http://nitrotracker.tobw.net/

copy some samples onto the card too

then put it in ya DS and make music!

Also the supercard/R4/etc allow you to do things like use your DS as an mp3 player

You might be able to run illegal versions of games too but I shan't discusss that ;)
