how many samples are playing at once?

are the samples recorded in stereo?

Sounds like you could be maxing out the polyphony.
I forgot how many voices can play at once, but a quick google search should lead you to it.

could be maxed out polyphony i guess, but im more inclined to assume that it could be stereo audio samples to blame. i have a similar problem, my 303 bugs out if im using primarily stereo samples. re-sampling more than 2-3 stereo samples at once has my 303 presenting a lag, maybe half a second, between time i press the pad and the time the sample triggers. stereo audio seems to be challenging for old samplers, and sp-303 was not designed with todays music production techniques in mind, so maybe take a look at older production techniques? beyond using mono samples to test the theory, and confirming its not a polophony or other common hardware/digital limitation. my advice is this; use the problems/ glitches to queue you into the samplers capabilities, and make the sampler as useful as you can without having any unintended results, if problems present then try another method for whatever it is that the 303 is having trouble with.
