PA Systems

Does anyone know anything about PA's?

I dont want to build one, i fail at carpentry and apparently its not much cheaper to build anyway if you use good parts than buying pre-made.

I'm looking for power/price specs & specific product recommendations..

Basically looking to cater for approx. 100 people (probably more like 50-75 at any point in time), outdoors and indoors.. so I guess worst scenario would be able to cover ~75ppl outdoors

Sound clarity doesn't have to be "audiophile". . . "wasted partygoer" will be just fine.

...although Id prefer it to be no worse than average.

i got a pa ive been using for like 6 years now, i just replaced one speaker a few months ago.. it has a 300 watt head which gives out 150 watts to each speaker and its been suitable for the amount of people you are talking about, ive used it in basement shows, rooftops, warehouses and house parties. i bought mine used to begin with and have been beating the shit out of it for real and its lasted, plus i paid 300 for it when i got it and the new(used) 200 watt speaker i got cost 100 bucks. i would suggest checking out a used equipment shop, you could easily find a good deal. i have a yamaha head, but if you arent overly concerned about audiophile sound i dont think it really matters... one thing i do to make it sound better for djing is running an eq box in the chain just to ensure that the songs dont sound muddy but do sound full.

that will work if you don't want to hear any music after they hear yours.

Anything above 60W is WAY overkill, it's likely you won't ever play those 300W at there maximum volume ... like EVER ... unless you're rocking huge clubs, outdoors or in football arenas or something

Any yes, 1500W will ruin your ears right at the first mic check

sometimes its cool to vibrate peoples organs when they come see you play

the only time ive turned my pa up almost all the way was to make vocals loud enough for a hardcore/punk band. when playing music its at like half and thats so loud... but if you are willing to drop the money for really loud speakers i would do it because you'll be ready to play your own warehouse raves and watts work like... my 300 speakers turned up half way will be as loud but wont sound as good as 1500 watt speakers turned up a quarter of the way

That really depends on whether you´ve bought some quality gear or shitty stuff.... The 300W speaker could still easily outdo the 1500W in terms of quality.

i guess if the speakers were worlds apart in terms of how theyve been used before... but i was more speaking assuming they are on equal levels of prior wear and tear
