I havent got any near decent mixing or mastering. All i own is a portable digital 8 track with blown out distorted outputs and stereo speakers. because i always land up using my money on equipment that tends to be more fun and less proffessional.
Although ive been using that setup for so long, i know how tracks are gonna end up sounding.
If i was recording anything for proffessional purposes, then im sure i would get it mastered by someone else..

I get to test our tracks in a club setting so even though I don't have proper monitors (they're next!) I can generally get pretty close to the mark with what I've got.
Using something like Voxengo SPAN on your favourite commercial tracks and then emulating that frequency spread is a good way to get close to what you want, regardless of your monitoring setup.

Warm bourbon makes you crazy
I do it personally...and not so well. I wish I had someone to do it for me. I really hate this aspect of making music.

I master in software right now. I 2 track out of the 404 into Live and then I use this lovely free compressor I downloaded from the fishfillet pack (www.digitalfishphones.com) And then I usually use abletons 4 band EQ to touch up. OH, and I monitor thru BX5as. Then later, if im mastering the final piece with vocals and all, or if its an instrumental piece I will usually just add a a limiter I got made by apple and do further EQing.
