Muzak release date is 4/04.. cassettes are ready

A while back I sent some music to legendary musician, Dudley Perkins and he said he liked it and offered to provide a hook for one of my songs at a reasonable price. I'd been working crazy hours and saving some extra money, and thankfully I decided to splurge. Dudley has long been one of my favorite artists. Once I finished the beat that seemed right for our collaboration, I began writing these rhymes..

Bask in the blast of the boom bap
Jammin's natural as a whole foods rack
Asking the cat to craft a new slap
Is like asking to laugh, I have to do that
Imagining life without its too sad
Like imagining life without this muzak..

See how I spelled muzak wrong so that it would rhyme? Well, after writing that, the word spelled that way looked familiar, but I couldn't remember where I'd seen it before. I looked it up and was delighted to find that it was the title of a Dudley Perkins song from his 2003 album, A Lil' Light. After finishing writing and recording the verses, I sent it over to him, telling him about the serendipity and mentioning that he could do a rendition of the Muzak hook on my beat. He did just that, and I couldn't be happier with how it was done. Georgia Anne Muldrow, his partner and fellow legend, sent me the chorus in the form of 4 separate but synchronized tracks. Although I didn't change the levels much, I did add a few subtle effects and study how Dudley harmonizes, from take to take. That lesson alone was well worth both of the payments. This anthem alone is well worth all of my ailments. The best parts were (A) reading a message from Dudley, shortly after the song was finished, saying "this one's really growing on me." and (B) hearing Georgia cheer "Ow!" in the background of their final recording, at the end of my verse. I overjoyously amplified that in the mix.

I think for my next project I will post verses in the 'freedom of speech' thread asking if someone who relates to the rhymes will provide the beat for them. I want to wait until I have at least a dozen verses written so it will probably be a few weeks from now. I tried hard on the Muzak tape so on the next one I'm trying to let loose! Here's the first track I have for it, recorded a few days ago on a Limpyloo beat
