SP scarcity concerns.
I remember 2 years ago I would look on Kijiji, here in Montreal, and find ads for SPs for sale. I would also find MPC2000xl and Zoom Sampletrak samplers for sale. Now, there's nothing. You see the occasional SP but rarely. I mostly see 404sx that are overpriced. $450, really? That's what I paid for mine brand new a couple years ago. I know it's how it works, the demand sets the price, but man. I wish SP weren t as popular as they are now. Same with MPC2000xl. I remember seeing one for 250$ a couple years back. They're all gone now. Cool thing though is you find really cheap rackmount samplers for 100-120$.

Re: SP scarcity concerns.
i'm lookin' around on ebay almost everyday and the only thing i can say is..... WORD!
what was the greatest deal you ever got for a sampler?
i once scored a Yamaha SU10 for 40$ incl. shipping which was my best deal so far i think.
here in switzerland you can buy a brand new 404sx for 400$

Re: SP scarcity concerns.
The greatest find I had was a 404 for about 100€ here in Norway a couple of months ago. Someone sold all their studio equipment and just listed it in between other items. The ad said that it didn't look so well and the volume knob would be a bit fidgety at times but I found everything to work just perfect. Just had a lot of scratches on the faceplate but I glued a printed design on it anyways, all in all you really could call it a steal
But yeah, it's crazy with the prices going up these days. Was there some kind of incident that caused that hype or is it just that there's less available cause the old ones are beginning to break?

Re: SP scarcity concerns.
Yes its true, I noticed on facebook of this increase in popularity with SPs, especially the 404 and 555. Its like people are discovering SPs and its going crazy, which can be a good thing if Roland sees demand, they might release that little SP they got hiding under their cupboards, the slouches.
Re: SP scarcity concerns.
Here's my finds.
OG SP404 - $150
Sampletrak(s) - $35 and $45
Korg Electribe ESX - $200
Korg Electribe Es1 MK2 - $65
SP505 - Traded a sampletrak
Casio sk5 - $5
I just missed out on a mpc1000 black, upgraded pads, JJos2 and lots of CF cards for $400
I'm currently on the hunt for a Roland MC909 Groovebox on the cheap.

Re: SP scarcity concerns.
its crazy, they will all be gone soon, on ebay you are gonna have to outbid me.
Its insane how popular they got, probably all down to those Le boilertron room videos. I never really understood those coz everyone does the same shit really, and just looks awkward trying to keep their hands busy. When SP heads know that actually you aren't really doing anything. Its just created a whole new generation of disillusioned kids who think they can be Dibiase or Tuamie or Knxwledge if they buy this box. Perhaps in a year or two or three the hype will die off and they will be cheap as chips again.
Or in a few years you can buy a 404 off me for $2000
Or a boxed 202 for $1000

I've got my SP555 a few years ago for ~350 euro, and an SP808 with the OP1 board for around 180
Oh and a Roland U110 with 12 PCM cards for around 80 euro
All was in very good condition, but I should spend more time with them

Yeah it's crazy. I never thought the SPs would become as popular as MPCs. But from all I've seen, it's definitely looking like it.
Re: SP scarcity concerns.
im in montreal too at the moment, you can still find some but you gotta fiend a lil bit. if you look everyday for a month or two it will pop up. but as kiyani said, if you wanna buy one for 2g, hmu, ill even throw a few non compatible compact flash cards for free.

Re: SP scarcity concerns.
I picked up an AKAI S2000 for £20 last week, I'll probably gut it and fit my MPC with the 8 outs
SP's are going up in price like crazy, I was considering selling my 404 OG as I only really use the 303 these days but I don't wanna have to pay MPC prices for another one further down the line.
